I had another thread pertaining to a Trinitron TV, and that TV had its front functions plate permanently open due to a plastic piece that was broken and long gone, exactly like the one in the attached picture.

I remembered this video by Tech Tangents testing this plastic reconstruction method that he heard elsewhere, and I decided to give it a try too as it was easy and affordable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1meoZaHYZo

With some time and adjustments I managed to create a similar piece from nothing that was incredibly strong, and now I can close and open the front plate exactly like I would have with the original piece, it fits perfectly.

I'm sure everyone here has so many examples of frustrating broken plastic components that can be fixed, I can confirm it truly works. The baking soda-super glue composite is so strong that you can file and sculp it to any form that you wish. I was so happy with the results I just had to recommend it. Give it a try!

I secondly approve of this message. I used to think this was janky, or some wive's tale or something, but then I tried it and was utterly surprised. However, I found out because this is what us luthiers do when repairing nuts on stringed instruments (the plastic/bone part that the strings go across going to the machine heads). I build guitars.

The Exothermic Reaction of this is what makes it so great. It melts the plastic and the BS+SG mixture into the plastic making it practically a part of the structure. This is what I use on vintage laptops to repair them, rather than JB Weld. My NEC Versa P/75 is pretty much 1/10th Baking Soda and Superglue now, 🤣, and I've been running it like that for 2 years, and nobody would be any the wiser. The entire front is held on by that mixture. My M/75 is catching up because I use it "too much" 🤣.

I've seen also if you REALLY want it to melt, IIRC either graphite or coffee grounds are also a strong solution - one of those actually SMOKES when you do it. Might actually have a sustainable use for all those used K-Cups....🤣.

Nice info, will keep that in mind. The coolest thing for me is how versatile this method is. I didn't give it much importance through word of mouth as well, but seeing it done and to verify it by my own hands is very satisfying
