So I have a hp vectra series 4 desktop and it's been a nightmare getting it going the way I want! Basically I want to put in a decent size hard drive (40gb or more) and dual boot it with windows 98 or 95 and ms dos 7 or 6.22 with a boot menu. The problem is multiple things keeping going wrong. The first is the computer itself can't have a hard drive bigger then 8gb. At first I tried ontrack but then I have the issue of writing the boot menu to the mbr so I gave up on that pretty quickly. The next thing I did was buy a pci ide controller to get past the hard drive limit that also had its issue. The main one being the computer refuses to boot unless the cd rom and hard drive are set in certain order on the on board ide controller. If any of you can lend me some aid with this it would help greatly as I have been trying to get this computer going for 3 years at this point.

Could you perhaps use XT-IDE to get larger disk support, rather than an add-in disk controller?

I have never actually heard of that before what does it entail to get running?

The short version is to put the XTIDE v2 BIOS onto a supported network card into its option ROM socket.
