Hello everyone,
since a few weeks, I have a Pentium 166MHz with 64 MB Ram on an Acer V55 (ALi M1521/23 (ALADDiN III)) motherboard. It works fine, but it as only 256 KB internal cache. It would be nice to have 512 KB. So, I went on eBay (Germany) and searched for the needed "Pipeline-Burst-SRAM-Module". So I found this: "SEC 764V80G 256 KB CPU L2 Cache COAST Module 160-pin DIMM SRAM Sync P Burst* mbz03" on eBay: https://www.ebay.de/itm/265681997204 and bought it.
This is the module:

(I didn't want to post the images as "images" here, since they are quite large.)
Today it arrived and I installed it. According to the Manual (available here: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/acer-v55#downloads) I needed to alter Jumper "JP8" and "JP9" from "2-3"(default) to "1-2". I did this, and booted the machine. Result: No boot in to the OS (Win95) possible. The Cache was active in the BIOS, so this could be the issue. When I deactivate the Cache in the BIOS, the machine boots without any issues.
I also tried to alter JP10 ("L2 Cache Mode") from "2-3" ("Normal operation") to "1-2" ("Reserved"), also with the same result: no boot into the OS possible.
The Board has a full screen boot-animation, so I don't get any information, besides one short "beep" during the faulty boot-process.
I have no idea, what went wrong here. Did I get just a faulty module? Did I miss something? Did I order the wrong module?
I found these other modules, and ask myself if I should try it these one of these:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/274725479096 ("HP 0960-0944 SMART 256KB SYNC P. BURST 160PIN DIMM SEC SRAM L2 Cache COASt Stick")
https://www.ebay.de/itm/144946772967 ("256KB sync pipeline burst cache Memory HP 0960-0944 for 486er 386er Memory")
(Okay, looks like, they are the same.)
Does anyone here have experience with such cache modules? Would be happy about comments.
