I doubt it will be patched up to the 128gb limit.

More likely you will be limited to one of the hard drive size limits

I have a Toshiba Satellite 320CDT and wasn't able to make a 120GB M.2 Sata SSD with adapter work. Not even on a Satellite 4000 which is a Pentium 2 model. Don't know if it's the size, or the fact that it's a M.2 drive, or if the problem is my specific SSD, or the adapter.

Somewhwere here on Vogons I read that some M2 Sata SSDs are not fully compatible so maybe it depends on the model. I also have a 8GB M2 Sata SSD which worked fine so I tried the one with 120GB which didn't. I don't remember exactly but I encountered many strange problems. (One was the original FDISK has problems with drives larger than 64GB)

I personally trust SSDs more than SD-cards so I'm using a 60GB mSATA with IDE adapter now, but an 16GB SD-card also worked fine.

also the problems with getting smaller ssds that they are harder to find in local stores and in general and that also are new and unused, i prefer to get something that is new and not storge option that is used, the 120gb one is the smallest and cheapest i can find

I got mine from ebay. They were sold as unused and I trusted the (private) sellers. However I don't mind too much for this usecase. It's not as if I store critical data on it. If it works then it will probably be fine for as long as I use it.

before i bought a used 40gb ide hard drive for my toshiba portage 320ct and it is work but in the crystal disk onfo i remamber it is said that hard drive is caution but it is did work but later the hard drive stoped working for me like it is dead and thats why i need a new storge option for me toshiba portage 320ct, so that also few of the reasons why i prefer to not buy used drives

Hard to say, but I think you could maybe choose a smaller m.2 ssd to put in it. Like a 8 gb or a 32 gb

You may be able to use the 128gb one and just program the bios to the largest size the bios supports and format a partition that size.

I have had more luck with sata m.2 2.5” adapted internally pata drives than I have with sd or compact flash drives personally.

There are adapters for SD -> 44 Pin IDE (2.5"). Same exists for Compact Flash.

should i go with sd card with ide adapter insted?

I think as long as you go for a smaller capacity (e.g. 32GB) probably all solutions will work

My laptop is broken but I have a msata adapter 2.5” drive that works every time I have tried it in a system. I have another that is sata m.2 and it also works every time I try it. Most of the systems I have tried it in though have had the size limit patches.
