This might be a weird question but long story shot I'm trying to assemble an Amiga 1200 from parts.
I ended up having to get a insulation sheet for the RF shielding because it didn't come with one , problem is it seems to be statically charged.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the charge , I'm not super keen on mounting it in case it gives the PCB a jolt of ESD and kills a chip or something.
Like is it even a problem or should I not worry about it?

Cause I've legit got packing peanuts magnetizing to it.

Cold water. Although, in that case, it's the packing peanuts having a charge and therefore sticking to everything, due to low mass.

You can easily check if something has a charge by moving the object in question near your hand hair or something similar. Hair will follow it.

Could I also use isopropyl alchol? , I saw some people mention that online? It might dry quicker that way.

NO do not use alcohol (drying agent, can make it worse). Yes first get rid of the peanuts then put the piece outside (should be your winter down under) or in the bathroom and take a shower it will add humidity to the air and lessen the static.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Well I tried cold water but it wouldn't remove the charge.

So I ended up using the sheet as a template to cut a bit of cardboard from an icecream waffle cone box with a scalpel to the same shape and size.

So I might just use that instead for the moment.

Just wondering if cardboard should be alright for the insulation?

Cardboard is not an RF insulator.

This. Commodore did use crappy cardboard RF shielding in many C64s, though, but they were coated with metallic paint. They weren't good, but I guess they did just enough to make them compliant. But without that coating, cardboard is useless and just gets temps higher. Which is exactly where those cardboard shields were good at with C64s.

good job AppleSouce
the point of the insulator in the A1200 is not for RF reasons anymore - you NEED it to insulate the bottom of the montherboard from the bottom tin RF shield piece that is needed to do a proper motherboard installation in the plastic case of the system.
The top RF shield part (that is also tin) is not needed and is better stored (or thrown away tbh...) and not installed in the system.

Right yeah Keropi , sorry I should have mentioned to the other posters that it stops the motherboard from shorting out and frying on the lower metal shield.
Well the cardboard seems to have done the job and has no static charge as far as I cant tell so ill probably just use it.
And the 1200 works and it seems to run AGA games fine so that's good.
Also I stole the gotek from my A500 for testing but the size is different so ill need to get one with a A1200 mount which will let me close the case up.
