Hello,
I was trying to play with my ga-586dx and it’s 8GB HD limitations.
The best thing to do was to add a Promise Ultra ata100 card.
Somehow the card was not able to handle my ancient Intel ssd 160gb.
Suddenly I remembered that even those pci controllers could have limitations around 120gb….
Is there a firmware official or modded that can overcome this limitation?
How to flash it on the card?
Thanks.

Thank you, actually it is a Fasttrack 100 TX2 (no sata, only ide).
Odd thing is that if I use it on a modern motherboard it creates the array correctly.
When I put it in the ga-586dx, it fails to create the array (or is unable to recognise an array created on the other motherboard!).
Is it me, the motherboard or the controller that does not like the ga-586dx??

Already updated to latest bios, now it sees the array.
But win2000 installation won’t even start.
I think there is something wrong somewhere…
Any advice?

Before asking, the installation disk is ok and the drive also.
I installed win2000 on a IDE2SD adapter without problems, but I want to overcome the 8GB limitation.

you said array, those cards do fake raid, you need driver disk for windows to see it

I know well. Thanks.
The screen you see is at the beginning of the installation process.
Way before F6 option.
It won’t even start.

My guess would be a resource conflict - have you tried different PCI slots? And disabling any unused ports in your CMOS settings to free up IRQs. I have used those Promise cards combined with SATA to IDE adapters and SSDs in several old Socket 7 systems and they've worked well for me.

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

Tried everything from that side.
I am afraid that this particular tx2 card does not work well with this ancient motherboard.

And it seems to be a recurrent win2k installation problem (?)
