Is the cable to the motherboard connected correctly. On my mobo the red is on the opposite side, and on this P1 build I first had it the way you did and my mouse wouldnt work either.

I've bought this one

https://www.ebay.it/itm/314530756137?hash=ite … ItemCondition=4

Since it says it was pulled from an older pc, perhaps it might work? I'll post an update when i get it

So, with a simple change to the port connections, you can make the mouse work, without the need for other cables or ISA cards, it's as they suggested quite simple, currently you have the cable connected like this:
1 2 3 4 5
6 7 8 9
Unplug everything except cable 1, then reconnect so they look like this:
1 3 5 7 9
2 4 6 8
That's all, this is the only way it works, if you want you can repeat the work on the second serial cable.

To clarify the things, we make the modification on the port that we connect our mouse in right? Apparently we cannot change anything with the other header that we connect directly to the comport. I have more than 8 cables none of them worked. ISA card with Comport didn't work either.

So I explained it in my previous post, you need to change the wires from 2 to 9, that is, desolder them and re-solder them so that the odd ones are aligned, and the even ones too, to understand the row of five must have odd wires, while in that of four, the even wires must be soldered to it.
If you have any doubts, just see the diagram I inserted previously.
If, however, you have the ports with the wires connected linearly, i.e. the row of five with wires from 1 to 5, and the row of four with wires from 6 to 9, in the Soyo 5BT5 (and also in other MB), any whatever you connect to it won't work, ditto for the parallel port, that too must have the same connection diagram.

checked my cables and one of them is this, I bought it on Aliexpress:

I think this cable is what you mention. But this cable doesn't work either.

I’ve had exactly the same problem with a 486 board. Known working serial mouse not working.
The original cables were gone so I just bought a very cheap (NOS!) ISA card with only COM1 and 2 - set the jumpers for the serial connectors on the board to OFF and the mouse came to life.

I have this ISA Com port and I wonder whether would that work on windows 95? I tried it but it didn't show any sign of life for my mouse. And yes I changed IRQ settings first. I don't know whether I need extra drivers or settings like jumpers since my mobo has no jumpers for comports

I wish you would stay within your own thread in stead of usurping this one, but here we are.

If all the hardware is working correctly then that isa card should allow serial port functionality on your mainboard given the jumpers are set correctly and your mainboard is configured correctly.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

assuming you tried the isa card connected and not the port, maybe you need to disable intergrated serial (if it does have)
