Hi!

I have an old 486 Build, Am486 DX-40, 8 MB RAM, Aztech Sound Galaxy Pro 16 I38-MMSN853, SiS-Chipset, MS-DOS 6.22. Everything runs smooth and fine. However, when I try to run doom with the sound device configured, it shows the DOS 4GW Bootscreen up to "I_StartupTimer()" and then chrashes. If I chose soundblaster for music and pc-speaker or none for sound it starts without any problem.

I tried lots of different things, including two other soundcards (a Soundblaster 2.0 and a SB16 VIBRA, both ok with doom in other systems), swapping RAM-modules. Nothing helped. Then I patched my Doom 1.2 to 1.666 and from there to Doom 1.8. It was ok then with sound.

Today, however I changed my old hard drive to a CF card and swapped some RAM modules and Doom is back to not running. I reverted to the old config but the error stays. I chose "Auto Configuration with Bios Defaults" after installing the new hardware, so maybe it's a BIOS-Setting I am missing, but I don't know where to start.

Anybody has an idea?

Thank you
