Hello,

I have old QIC 40MB drive Mountain 01-05760-01 with old FDD 5.25" connection. Succesfully repaired capstan roller, but I cannot communicate with drive in DOS. I tested EZDRIVE software for tape backup, and few others without succes. My question, this kind of tape drive need some special floppy cable for work ? (my testing PC with 386 board , MsDos 5, with two floppy drives , but original cable is missing). Tape drive is initialized on startup, but when Im traing backup with EzDos software I get No Tape drive error.

sorry for my English and Thanks for suggestion

Martin

Mountain tape drives required specific software to work IIRC. Most of the software that worked with other QIC tape drives does not work with them.
For a cable it should be able to use a standard cable, problem is it has no jumpers so should be locked at ID1 so should go on the first connector before the twist making it a drive B but do not set the bios to any drive B.
There are special Floppy+Tape controllers designed for some of the older tape drives, hopefully yours does not need one.
Cannot find any Mountain web archive thru wayback machine, or any FCC ID links either that would be relevant. Is not like looking for Colorado or Iomega stuff....
Sorry if am wrong but am going from decades old memory and what little tech is out there...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Thanks, The right connection will be the basis of success. I found the software, Filesafe ver. .5.2.3 should work ..
