How it is? Can it be installed on SATA in AHCI mode or not on X79? Some claim that they are successful, other are unsuccessful no matter what they do. How it is in reality?

TL;DR - need a modified driver, preferably already integrated. You will need it in any case, because Intel dumped official AHCI support on Windows XP pretty much from the start - only ICH6/ICH7 are supported.

Huh? I must be misunderstanding something, because I've installed XP with AHCI on ICH10R and whatever the Ivy Bridge chipset is just fine simply by slipstreaming the F6 driver...
Yeah, only via diskette integration.
