I was sorting through a box of memory cards and noticed what looked like tiny dip switches on some 72pin ram, which had "hyperram" printed on them. Never noticed this before, presumably it's something to do with setting speed or latency etc. I think they were EDO. I'll post a picture when I find my camera charger 😜.

Waiting for the pic 🤣!

I got a small box with the label "weird RAM"...it's got some really weird stuff in it, like SIMM's with 68 or so pins instead of 72 😜

Here's a photo of the ram, both sticks are the same 😀.

Yeah, I was surprised, especially as I've had it 10 years or more and never noticed.

back then some hardware manufacturers used their own custom stuff to force you buy more stuff from them 🤣
GVP for example made amiga accelerators that used their 64pin SIMMS , that were ridiculously more expensive than normal simms and offered nothing better...

68 pin is probably Mac IIfx RAM. The Mac IIfx RAM was exclusive to that machine.

The IIfx SIMMs were 64-pin, not 68. A lot of the old Macs used 68-pin SIMMs for the VRAM, though. I think some Sun SparcServer systems used 68 pin memory as well.

I'd agree, it does look like a cache module.

Maybe I should have a look in my box of weird RAM and post some pics at some time 🤣, I'm coming across a lot of odd stuff now that I'm cleaning up the attic. Some of the stuff never even left their box after 2 moves! 😜
