17 inch Sampo monitor using 1024X768 for desktop and 1024X768 for games,lowering it to 800X600 or even 640x480 if games didn't support 1024x768,videocard was geforce 2 mx with 32mb ram then a geforce 2 mx 400 64mb ram and processor was amd Duron 700mhz.

Early 2001, I had some cheap 15" CRT at 1024x768. It was very fuzzy doing that, but I did it anyway. In the 90's that seemed really high resolution, but by 2001 I think it was probably the most common.
Late 2001, but possibly early 2002 (not sure), I splurged on a 19" Trinitron G400. I ran that at 1280x1024 on the desktop, and 1600x1200 in games with a Geforce2 MX. That slowed it down but I thought it was worth it. My most demanding game was Ultima 9, and that didn't really need a high frame rate. I liked the detail. It's still higher res than my current monitor.
1600x1200 was fuzzy for the desktop but in games I thought it looked great. I was disappointed that monitor didn't last long.

800x600@85Hz on a NEC Multisync V521 15" CRT of my first computer which failed in 2006. It was my only and main monitor until I got a Philips 170S5 17" LCD in Christmas of 2004. I don't have to mention the difference between these two!
Back then, I was at the very first steps of computing as a child and around half of the average homes had actually a computer, so I was happy with any display.

I've had a decent 15" monitor between 1993 and 2000 which burned out (and recycled out). Forgot the brand, definitely was a noname, but supported 1024x768, had visible scanlines and was sharp with great colors, amber LED for power, knobs in a little opener panel under the screen and was energy star certified and never was identified in any PNP detection.

for me it wasnt higher then 1024x768. On a 15inch and later a 17 inch ADI microscan monitor.
On a pentium 1 the resolution wasnt higher then 800x600 32bpp

~ At least it can do black and white~
