Every system I touch I try to get 7-zip benchmark results for. It gets installed on every system and is pretty quick to run. So here is my collection to share with you. There are some anomalies that you might notice. I probably will know why, so just ask.

Edit: Here is an online Google Sheet. It is editable so you can add your own scores, or post screenshots and I will add them every once in awhile.
Please do not reorganize the spreadsheet, sort by different columns, etc. If you want to do this, download it and change your copy of it.

Edit: in some brief testing, I got slightly faster results with 7-zip version 16.02 vs version 9.20. Let's try to keep the results consistent by sticking with the old (9.20) version.

CPU: Pentium D 940 (3.4Ghz)
OS: XP 32-bit
version 09.20 results: 3311 MIPS, 2930 compress, 34927 decompress
version 16.02 results: 3359 MIPS, 2959 compress, 37591 decompress

OS: antiX MX-15 linux 64-bit
version 09.20 results: 3359 MIPS, 3115 compress, 36162 decompress

note: most (all?) linux repos use the 9.20 version of 7-zip.

Directions to run on linux:
if not already installed, install the package p7zip-full.

Run from the command line:

7z b

Use the 32 MB dictionary size. on the linux version this is defined as 25 (2^25=32MB).

Here is a comparison screenshot between Windows and linux versions. The colored rectangles represent equivalent values.

Nine. I have an E300 notebook. Funny that a Pentium D can beat it...

Interesting, but you should add the size of the cache for every CPU, cause cache matters and maybe their codenames.

+ used RAM i.e. clockspeed and timings (packing programs love high clocked RAM and low latency)

You can look up the CPU cache size based on CPU description. 7-Zip version is 9.20. I do not track 32/64 bit, just whatever the system is when it goes through my hands. Assume older machines are 32-bit and newer ones 64-bit. Some of the systems are mine, most are machines I configure quickly before putting into production. I don't have time for extensive benchmarking, but 7-zip 9.20 is something I put on every machine anyway, so it makes it quick and convenient to get a number to add to this spreadsheet before shipping the system off to the end-user.

edit: the dictionary size is default (32MB).

Thanks, rodarkone! Different version (I use 9.20) so I'll have to see if the results are comparable, but if so I will add it. 😀

Here are the results with 9.20

just noticed that it doesn't show the CPU in the interface so here is my config (is a laptop - Clevo P377SM-A)

I am not sure if this bench is working in win98 I have a few older systems laying around (I can test those also if you want)

Thanks, rodarkone! Yes, 7-zip 9.20 runs on Win98. Also, you can run 7-zip from a linux distro if you want. It's not usually installed by default, but it's an apt-get away.

rodarkone, you now occupy the top 3 spots on my list, as well as the 6th spot:

^Better than what I was expecting 😀
Kinda scary tho...

^Too much bandwidth... there is no such thing with 7-zip/WinRAR 😉

I used 64-bit version of 7-zip if anyone is interested.

swaaye,
Nice...thanks! Not bad for an Atom. Looks like it falls in just behind the C2D E6550. A little slower on processing, but a little faster with chipset/memory subsystem. Added to the list.

agent_x007,
You just edged out rodarkone! Nice O/C.

PS-I keep having to shrink the view on the spreadsheet to fit it into one screen for a shot. Does anyone know if it's possible to screenshot while scrolling down to capture a "long" image?

maybe to use some other method of displaying the results -> spreadsheet in Google sheets 😀

I definitely suggest putting it into Google sheets. Then people can add their results in a separate tab that you can later clean up and add them to the main sheet.

This is what Phil did for his VGA benchamark test.

Thank U 😀
But to be honest, I'm more interested in Pentium XE 965 going over G2120 😀
Why not screenshot them in parts and use mspaint to then join together in one big picture ?
That, or google drive.

PS. After some thought... let's put some distance between 1-st and next place 😉 (previous result was done with 24/7 OC)

Okay, I made a Google Sheet of this. My hesitation was unfamiliarity with privacy/anonymity in Sheets (I'd never used it to share with before). I think I got all the privacy settings configured as to not show any of my personal info. It is set to share with those who have the link, and editing is allowed. Here is the link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fBPxW … dit?usp=sharing
I'm not sure how to undo the color fill on the Ghz column. I formatted it so that it would always show two digits after the decimal, and after that it is a green color. I've tried setting the Fill Color to white, but it is still showing that greenish color.

Would somone more familiar with this check it out? Then I'll add the link to the opening post.

Thanks!
