Hi, all

I got a SoundBlaster CT2770 card for my Compaq Presario 433 machine (486DX2@66, MS DOS 6.22). For some reason I can't get any sound of it in games or Diagnose.exe. The only thing that works is audio CD playback using Creative's bundled qcd.exe. Here are my steps:

1) installed the SoundBlaster Value from three floppy images from this disk.
2) tried playing some games
3) tried running Diagnose.exe, no error messages and no sound
4) tried removing the second ISA card (a multi I/O with only one LPT port enabled) — there are only two ISA slots in this machine
5) checked if all onboard ports (COM/LPT/Gameport) are disabled

Autoexec.bat:

Config.sys:

msd.exe IRQ tab:

Make sure the correct Address (A=220) is configured in the hardware https://th99.bl4ckb0x.de/i/C-D/53592.htm

How much free conventional memory do you have? Try loading config.sys drivers after the memory managers, not before.
I can post my systems config.sys and autoexec.bat files later.

Please do. I'll make sure to post mem output in a couple of hours. Thanks!

You might also try drivers from Creative Labs still-maintained site:

You should be able to boot to DOS without config.sys or autoexec.bat, run diagnose.exe and get FM music without any other configuration.
If diagnose passes all the tests but is still inaudible it points to a hardware problem.
Could you post a photo of the card. There are some jumpers that would result in no sound if they were missing.
Does this machine have onboard sound?

Looks like changing config.sys order helped, I have sound now. Thanks everyone!

Also, perhaps try ditching ctsb16.sys and ctmmsys.sys. Most games don't require these shim layers to function.
