So... Anything special about the IBM Thinkpad 365x Type 2625-2x? (9 or 8, cant see exactly what my brother texted me a picture of)
He might have found him a good or a bad deal, thinking of what he payd for it...

Well, if he paid a lot for it, it had better have a TFT screen, since I think that model could have either passive or active matrix screens.

It makes a great DOS/Win9x machine, but it's nothing particularly special. It doesn't have a CD drive unless you upgrade it with one in the floppy drive bay.

He payed NOTHING for it??

😳 😳

I spent months trying to find one for less than $150 (+$50 shipping) on eBay. Tell him he's a lucky, lucky man.

150?? 😳 You are joking right?
Why are they so expensive. I mean. Not really expandable as a desktop/tower machine.

I have a 365ED. It's pretty great for DOS stuff, the audio is fully SB compatible & the C&T video chip is pretty decent. It's a tank. The DSTN screen isn't as bad as everyone goes on about, don't expect to speedrun DOOM on it but for less action-oriented stuff it's fine. Early TFT screens weren't that much better.

Oh, they're not worth nearly that much. They're probably worth ~$30-40 at the very max.

Stupid eBay sellers, however, don't know that. They notice that it's old, and they think they can make a quick Benjamin. Those auctions never sell, but they sure do proliferate.

I can see an IBM Thinkpad 365 series being worth $150 in not too long. I think the TP365E, which contained a Cyrix/IBM 5x86c, would be a pretty novel piece of hardware to own.

Yeah.... 30 to 40 seems like the right price. 50 tops.
They might go as high as 150 in 10 years, if they are in mint condition. Only if they are in mint, with an working original battery and original packing.

I bought two of them last year for around 40 a pop and one came with a near mint condition leather bag with all the goodies. The screens are shit but the rest of the machine is well made and performance isn't bad at all. Upgrade the ram and the storage but that is it. I can see the prices being reasonable up to 60 shipped but not more however knowing how people like to yolo things once they are mentioned here as well the greed of eBay sellers I am not the least bit surprised about seeing some trying for $150 a pop.

DTSN screens don't age well and some samples are truly horrendous.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

Just try to find 701c (Buttefly) for a reasonable price. I have a collection of Thinkpads (~30), found 701c for 30 euros shipped 5 years ago (needed some work, most notably CMOS batt change, real PITA on that machine, requires Torx T1 and lot of patience). Now they go for insane prices (like 300-400 euros).

Many 3Dfx and Pentium III-S stuff.

Ebay greed really sucks. That aside, can some type of replacement screen be found of better quality than the original part? I am thinking about a screen with more modern technology.

I remember the keyboard, because it was such a cool invention. Yet I can not remember anything about what people used to talk about them, when it was about the owerall build quality.
