Judging by the stickers it would have spent its original working life in a data center providing Legal Intercept services to some fairly small telco. There are tell-tale signs of some pretty hefty full-length PCI cards having been installed for most of its operating life - they probably did the heavy lifting there.

For the PCI/ISA SBC boards, you should have full ISA support no matter what from what I have found. I am guessing that that board has an ITE8888 PCI to ISA bridge chip on it... which incidentally has full ISA support including DMA.

Certainly looks like it. Does make me wonder though why my non-PnP card completely failed to work, but if I really want to do stuff with it there's more to do (emm386.exe failed, presumably due to 2GB being too much RAM). TBH this thing goes pretty low down the to-do list right now. It clearly works, and is clearly too new for my preferred era 😉

I've been doing quite a bit of research on the SBC setups as I have a 386DX-40 SBC, a full Pentium 4 PCI/ISA SBC based rackmount computer, and am working on getting stuff for a Pentium 4 PIAGP system although the LPC to ISA and PCI to ISA bridge modules that are needed (either one will work with my SBC and backplane) for ISA support are eluding me.

If it turns out I've fried my old 386 CPU and board (messed up CPU orientation 😢 ) I'll be looking for something more 486/Pentium era for this backplane. The one bit of unobtainium I'd love: there exists a DEC Alpha PICMG module...

Damn you Vogons, I have made up my mind, I must own a VLB graphics card before they are no longer available anywhere. I have my eyes on some Cirrus Logic cards, which one is the better one to get? GD5428 or GD5429? Despite a higher model number the 28 seems to be a preferred card?

Also, just how bad is TGUI9440AGi? Worth buying if I can land one for cheap?

Some people say it is fast, I just don't see any benchmarks telling that it is on par with an S3-805 VLB or something like that.
If there is any benchmarks, telling that Trident cards are as fast as the S3, then please let me know.

In DOS it's almost as fast as top S3 VLB - like 968 or Trio64. In Windows it's average and usually even doesn't support 16/24-bit color modes.

Here are my _old_ tests - I'm actually doing a retest and will finish in a few days - more cards on one VIP system. I'll test ISA, VLB and PCI cards. Later I'll add more detailed tests with more interesting cards.

9440 is fast in 8-bit color modes, but horribly slow in 16-bit color.

So it seems, that ET4000w32 VLB is indeed overhyped. Slower and less compatible than S3-805 and up.

My understanding is that All of the ET4000 cards are more or less on equal footing in DOS, but there is a big difference between them in windows. The ET4000W32 should be considerably slower than the W32i/p in Windows. That said, the ET4000W32P is fairly average at accelerated graphics. I think the ET4000W32P is faster than a regular 805 in Windows, but should be equal to the 805i.

I do not own any 805 based VLB cards, so I am not sure what they are like in DOS. At least as far as doom goes, the Trio64 is a few FPS faster than the 968, but that may be because it's a VRAM based card. Maybe the 805 is somewhere in between the two?

ET4000s blew everything else away in ISA on a 386, but in 32-bit form on a fast 486 they were just one of the pack. I wouldn't call them overhyped; it's more a matter of the competition catching up. That's a good thing.

It has 8 swollen 330uF 25V capacitors. The brand is Stone, which is I guess as good as Noname. I'll probably have it recapped, and have all 330uF 25V capacitors replaced.

The only issue is that replacement caps I can find are 85C rated, not 105. Not sure if that will make a difference though: I recapped my BX2000 with 85C caps, and it works just fine..

A Rotel RB 985 five channel power amplifier. It is a retro hardware, since it's a 1990's product, and, along with the Outlaw ICBM I previously bought, it will be used in my mini home theater system for old computer games. The speakers would be Bowers & Wilkins DM302 --five of them. The DM302 has impedance dip as low as 3 ohm between 200 to 300 Hz, but based from reviews I read, the RB 985 should have enough juice to make them sing.

I'm kind-of surprised that Rotel amp doesn't have balanced inputs.

I see one P3B-F with a PIII 1000-100 (SL4KL) that sold for $55 in late March in eBay sold history, but it looks to be in worse condition than yours. A few PIII 1000-100's have sold on cpu-world in the $20-50 range over the past couple years. So they are definitely rare, but not unobtainable. It's perfect for a high performance 440BX setup. The PIII 1000-100 Socket 370 is more common, but a slocket adapter just doesn't look as cool as a proper SECC2 cpu.

Very rare... i built first a 2000q2 rig with slot1 1000/133 (the fastest native slot1 cpu) p3 with gf2gts, but finally i switched to p3 700 and gf256 from 99q4 (i felt more bx authentic) 😀

i am still looking for a slot1 1000/100, but i found nowhere, it is the fastest for bx without oc.

I bought my SL4BR for $45 on CPU-World forums. They are fairly rare. SL4KL is still rare, but more common. They are both the same stepping.

In vga mode the ark1000vl is the fastest. It is outperformed the w32p and the vision864.

Ok, so I apparently didn't use the right search term on eBay. Used "Pentium" in all my searches. I still paid a decent amount less than the one that sold in March.

The slocket adapters that actually work properly with coppermine seem to be quite hard to obtain at a decent price.
