Does anyone know if RIFA/other bad AC line suppression/filter capacitors were used in early (specifically, 1993, my Compaq Presario 425) to mid 1990s computers, during the Windows 3.1/486 era?
I've only really ever seen/heard of them in early to mid 80s electronics, not really in late 80s to 90s stuff.
I have two things. A Compaq Presario 425, and a fear of the "magic smoke" escaping, particularly from the AC filter. Is this a bad combination? Specifically, is it likely that the filter capacitor would fail spectacularly in it? I've never read any cases of these things having major issues like that, but best to be on the safe side.
