My wife has a couple of those lamps out in her work shop.

There's a glitch in the matrix.

Saved from the dumpster at work. The modem was used to interface with a meteorological tower Climatronics system to provide weather information to the nuclear plant process computer, the laptop was just a general workstation for looking up plant components in the main control room, and the headsets plugged into the HI-COM system to talk with other people around the plant (relay room, main control room, etc)

2x David Clark H5030 headsets w/ mic (I'll probably use these in my Humvee -- they appear to still be manufactured, despite not being used since the early 90's) The cool thing with these -- no amp/headunit required: just talking generates the power needed to hear it in the other headset. Clip them together with the alligator clips, and you can talk to each other in high noise environments.

Got this Supertron SV1482 yesterday that was wasting away in the attic at some guy's house.
After a cable change the image isn't half bad, sharper than I expected. Needs extensive cleaning inside and out.

I'm thinking this will make one hell of an XP box! Specs are:
-i7-2600K which was actually overclocked by the previous owner to 4.3GHz (and it's fully stable at that frequency @ stock voltage with the dinky Intel cooler--this may be a "golden" 2600K!)
-16GB of DDR3-1600, 9-9-9-24
-Radeon HD 6970 2GB video card. I think this was AMD's answer to the GTX 570?
-256GB OCZ SSD and 3TB hard drive
I just need to stick my X-Fi Titanium in there and it should be all set!

Some initial benchmarks:
3DMark01SE

Not bad, not bad. However, this $60 Optiplex 9020 I picked up (and promptly added a GTX 1650 to) consumes 3 times less power, is nearly silent, and outperforms the Sandy Bridge rig.
WAE6BnG.jpg

In the CPU-heavy 3DMark01SE and Doom3 benchmarks, the 3.6GHz Haswell just ran circles around the 4.3GHz Sandy Bridge. That double-bandwidth L1 on the Haswell is making all the difference, I suppose. In 3DMark01SE, the boring Optiplex managed to hit 82,339, and in Doom 3 @ 1024x768 'Ultra', it got 466.2 fps. So yeah, much faster single-threaded CPU performance than the Sandy Bridge. Of course, it can't run XP. 😀

Put the 1650 in the 4.3Ghz system and see how the scores fair. You can't really compare them unless you are using the same exact video card.. especially in 3DMark.

Guy posted on FB group (about vintage synths) he wants to give away this thing - nobody wanted it, and when I noticed his post it was already too late because he throwed it away... but when I contacted him he recovered it from the dumpster and I picked it up today... I have some Audigy cards but with internal connector, I guess it's a goods reason to look for a card with external connector 😉
It came with the cable too.

Nice! did see a few cards been sold without the external box when I was looking to buy one myself. Should sell real nice as a complete package if you don't wan't to keep it yourself and 1/2 of them are missing the cable

Not your typical "retro hardware", but I'm counting it. I lucked into these two '80s style spring-arm lamps by the side of the road tonight. I've actually been after one for ages, but apparently they're so far out of style they may as well have never existed. I remember them being everywhere when I was a kid & now they're just gone. Bizarre. (I'm sure you can probably get them new from somewhere, but I never see them in thrift shops, offices, garage sales, people's homes, or anywhere really, so apparently no one's buying them.)

20191011_005941.jpg

Fortunately they're in way better shape than the Asus A7V8X was. 😜 There was also a super-'80s stylish red one, but it was kinda trashed and didn't have the spring arm base, so I left it there.

I have a specific spot in my living room where one of these will be perfect. I'll probably use the other one for a reading lamp over my bed. Both areas are badly in need of some extra lighting.

IKEA still has these style of lamps, the TERTIAL which they sell for $9. Not affiliated, but just know of these because I've used two for mic and camera holders. Still want to get one just as a lamp, though.

I have one of those Flexco lamps from the US sitting in the basement, made by the Art Specialty Company.

Pretty cool, but never got around to converting it to euro-cycles. It looks like this one:

Since we're talking lamps here all of a sudden, here's what I picked up yesterday:
flamingo-lamp.JPG
You can't really tell from the photo, but the beak is blue. Obviously a keeper. 😀

Also yesterday I found:
- a nice vintage philips portable radio, which I think can be sold quite easily.
- A curved samsung display of some fashion. Lacking it's power adapter tho. Will go back where it came from if I can't find an adapter soon.
- A complete LGA1156 PC, ASUS mobo, 8GB of RAM, some videocard AND:
- A Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD! Nice. Will be a boot drive for my server.

All in all, a good day for trash pickin'.

This flamingo is amazing! Also what kind of idiot throws away perfectly good 250GB SDD drive, not to mention LGA1156 platform with 8GB of RAM which still is a decent PC 😮

Don't throw away this Samsung display even if it lacks the power adapter. You can probably mod it into a nice daylight lamp perfect for taking hardware pictures or working on computers. Take a look how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JrqH2oOTK4

Oh cool, that's a good idea.
I've been thinking of making some videos and lighting is a bit of an issue. Now instead of getting those LED-arrays that everybody is using, I could just mod some old screens. Neat!

As for people throwing away good stuff; there are plenty, plenty of those around, unfortunately.
I've been trash picking for a long time, and I've always wondered what makes people thow away good stuff. Nowdays, I can understand why it's done in some cases. Not that I condone it, just understand why.

Possibly. And it probably comes from a strip club. 🤣
