Got a 1998 Celeron system yesterday. Seller said it wasn't working and put it up for 10€ + 8€ shipping.
I bought it mainly because I need an AT case, but it turned out the case is really badly yellowed and of very cheap build quality, so I'm not sure if I really want to use it for my SS7 build.
When I fired it up it indeed didn't have any video output, but after replacing the graphics card with a Rage 128 I had in storage and putting in a new BIOS battery, it turned out to be in perfect working order.
The components look like there haven't been any major upgrades since the system was built in December 1998, apart from the RAM which is 128 MB, maybe a bit too much for a low-end/midrange system of that year.
On the inside, all components are, besides being a bit dusty, in great shape.
Specs:
- QDI P6I440LX/L6 (Legend VI) Slot I, Baby AT form factor mainboard, 440LX chipset
- Intel Celeron 300A
- 1x 128MB RAM
- S3 Trio3D 4MB AGP Graphics Card (works only every now and then)
- Sound Blaster 16 WavEffects (CT4170 / Vibra 16XV)
- LG CRD-8322B 32x CD-ROM drive
Only thing that is missing is the HDD. I'm not sure what to do with it yet. I don't have any use for such a system and my plan of using the case and selling the rest is not that appealing given the condition and overall quality of the case. And I am somehow reluctant do rip a system apart that is basically in its original state from 21 years ago just to get this case.
What would you guys do?
