Quality board from 1999 with Japanese capacitors.

I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to pair this with a PCI FX5500, MX4000 or even a Voodoo2.

Best part of NOS are those tasty boxes. I especially like the art design on the MSI box.

Nice mobo's ! All I found this weekend was some 1.44Mb floppy disks. Box of 50 for $6.50 (was half off yellow tag price). Odd thing is the side label says 1995 and 7/95-S/H, wonder if they are that old or TDK just kept using same box style for a long time....
Anyway, you can not have too much media for vintage gear 😀

As mentioned in another thread, I ordered a NOS OEM AWE64 Value (CT4520) to test whether the craptastic line-out noise performance on mine is typical or if I have an outlier .

My CT4520 unit has low volume pulsing noise (probably below -60dB, I did not measure) on line-out which my CT4520 CT4500 does not .

Nice ! Yes Goodwill is bad at not keeping the AC adapter with the unit intended (so they can get a few extra $ selling it separate). Did you look over the shelves to see if it was in with cables and stuff ?
I keep my eye out for any external serial modem, have yet to find a decent 2400 but have found a few 28.8 and 33.6

I actually found this in the "Outlet Center" part of the store (along with a pair of Creative branded PC speakers I also grabbed) and while I found what might have been a 25-pin serial cable to go with it (that I didn't buy because I didn't know if it was serial or parallel) I could not find a power supply even after an extensive search.

I remember buying TDK disks in that exact style of box in late 96.

I just re-read and corrected my post .
Basically, the CT4520 line-out is crappy. The Ct4500 line-out is much better . The CT4500 has crappy line-in . The CT4520 line-in is better .
I also ran some line-in tests on another CT4520 that I have in another machine . See Noisy AWE64 recording from any input (line in, EMU8000 MIDI, etc) + upcoming AWE64 comparison

I notice the board has two Intel Overdrives. Didn't Intel disable SMP in their overdrives? Or was that just the MMX overdrives?

This is what I am trying to find out 😀 It came with two P90's which is what it was designed for. Those I installed are Socket 5 overdrives which should be close to stock CPUs.

MMX Overdrives don't support SMP. Non-MMX might as there are hints in datasheets saying so.

I've got this nice kit today for a good price(23 euro incl. shipping)

Soyo 019R1 mobo with 128 kb cache + Cyrix Cx486DLC-40GP + Cyrix Cx87DLC-40QP + 4 Mb SIMM 30 RAM.
And also this 8-bit multi-i/o card

Unfortunately, the board is playing dead with me; all the chips are getting warm but still no beep, no video and also nothing on the POST card... only the LED-s are light up.
PS: I've already removed the varta...

Couldn't wait for Jensen to hurry up baking the next batch of 3000 series cards..

Back to the GW to check for more media and got 150 DVD blanks for $10. They have a shelf full of unopened various brands DVD+R and some DVD-R for $3 or $4 for 50 packs or $7 or $9 for 100 packs.
The little 25 packs were also $3.... Any body need some DVD media for cheap ? These are what I left on the shelf......

It's a real shame about Intel removing SMP for the MMX overdrives. Please keep me informed about the non-MMX overdrives.

I don't need them, but the Fuji +R's might (or might not) be Taiyo Yuden.

I just ordered a Roland VS-880EX from Japan to replace my Akai DPS12, which I have been using as a mixer . The reason for this is the "issue" discovered and described in this thread : Noisy AWE64 recording from any input (line in, EMU8000 MIDI, etc) + upcoming AWE64 comparison

The VS-880EX is not perfect and it definitely is not new, but

a) it has an uncompressed mode, but that is limited to 6 tracks, which is enough for me
b) it has 6 analogue balanced inputs
c) it has S/PDIF output
d) its hard drive is 2.5MM, IDE and can be replaced by a CF card or likely an IDE to SATA converter
e) it has a universal PSU
f) it is relatively inexpensive

Wish anal retentive perfectionist me luck. Hopefully the VS-880EX will not be worse than my DPS12 😉

EDIT: I would have just bought a modern mixer, but finding one that has S/PDIF output (USB is what they all have) and does not cost multiple arms and legs is practically impossible .

Today I received a couple of curious vintage hardware, the first was a bit of a gamble. From the layout it looks like a graphics adaptor, but the DA-15 connector does not corroborate. With little info on the silkscreen and labels I became intrigued by this little 8 bit isa card. Puled the trigger on it, and now I have a more clear picture, the 28 in ic (U1) is a 6264 static ram. The logo on the main ic and pcb, is from a company called "Video Associates Labs". I now think that this thing is MDA for a CNC machine, probably reusable on a xt class pc.

The second piece of vintage hardware is an IBM classic, the iconic IBM PS/1 model 2011 ( @ least for me ) :

The special thing about this machine is a rare PS/1 sound card, besides being a cute little box :

@ last but not the least, a book about the ISA interface, this is a good reference book from 1995, so a bit late for the lifespan of the ISA "standard", and that makes it a very thorough book:
