And config.sys does not contain any changes.

Neat. I think only having the one DMA might stop being able to record and playback at the same time, if I've understood the datasheet.

Now that we know that unisound sets up the IDE port, I'm wondering if it's worth trying those other 2 CDROM drives that didn't work in Windows, and if they work with one of the various drivers you now have. Or whether now's the time to actually enjoy it working.

One of them needs a belt replacement and the second one works fine
