For my next build, I wanted to build a DOS/Win98 system with ISA and AGP slots running a VIA C3 Nehemiah CPU. Slockets like MS-6905 are almost impossible to find now, or they are priced as much or more than a motherboard, so Slot1 is out of the picture. With S370, the only boards I could find that matched these requirements use the VIA 694T chipset. But they are insanely priced, have blown capacitors, and/or have missing ISA slots.

But I recently read that some late S370 motherboards with the 440BX chipset also support Tualatin processors. Would these boards also support Nehemiah?

#1 VIA C3 Ezra-T 1.0GHz / MSI MS-6368 / Voodoo2+ViRGE GX / SBPro2+YMF744+AWE64+SC-7
#2 Pentium III-S Tualatin 1.40GHz / QDI A10T / Voodoo3 3000+GF4 Ti4200 / Audigy+AU8830+SC-50

I have seen them go for much more than that. I would get it if it posted to my country.

That's crazy pricing. I have both a 4390 and a 4540 and I didn't pay more than $50 for either.

Of the three currently available to me on fleabay, one is $860 and the other $533. That is the range I am used to seeing for Golds.

Those are insane prices. They better be embedded with jewels for that price.

These boards are expensive in part because they support Tualatin (694T where 694X does not support Tualatin officially), they support up to 1.5GB of RAM (where Intel Tualatin capable boards went to 512MB SDRAM max with i815 chipset), they support 133MHz FSB officially (which 440BX does not (but 440BX has ISA slots)) and they support ISA (which i815 and i820 do not).
So despite Intel i815 and i820 being arguably more stable s370 platforms, it's VIA you will want if you want all of these features.

If you want cheaper, you're probably gonna have to compromise, or find a good deal by chance.

That is exactly my reasoning for wanting a 694T board! I already have a "compromised" board - a VT8601T motherboard that supports everything but does not have an AGP slot.
And you didn't actually answer my question 😀. Will a 440BX S370 board with official support for Tualatin also be able to run a VIA C3 Nehemiah CPU?

Spotted some unicorn poo on this mornings ride to Bunnings. And here I was thinking they were as scarce as rocking horse shit.

I know of no such boards. BX is like older than 2 generations of mainstream chipsets (before the 1st iteration of i815 and before i820) that did not support Tualatin out of the box. And besides, BX only does 133MHz FSB when overclocking.

I don't know much about Nehemiah compatibility. My guess is you will have to see compatibility on a case to case basis (or you could try your luck on a site like cpu-upgrade.com).
CPU support for the VIA s370 chips always seemed sketchy to me.

No data on regular Adlib Golds, but a sealed Adlib Gold recently went for $2,427.00!

kolderman wrote on 2021-11-10, 18:46:

🤣 on what planet are AWE64 Golds regularly going for $170? Next you will be saying Adlib Golds are going for 250.

Heck I was surprised by an auction just a few days ago for a Aureal Vortex2 A3D SQ2500 I had seen them go for $50+ before but what this one went for caught me off guard.

I got into retro computers because I had one or two and wanted to expand on it and it was cheap but over the last few years it has gone bonkers.

I have a Supermicro P6DGS I was hoping to run with a pair of dual processor slotket 1 GHz processors (to save $$) but the board refuses to run with those slotkets and hell be damned I'm paying 400+ USD for a pair of 1 GHz slot 1 CPUs to use in a motherboard I paid less than $30 for a few years ago.

About 1 year ago I found a AP133TAS3-T205C on fleabay for $20 because the seller had it mislabeled and did not seem to know what it was. Only way to find those unicorns is with some luck... its not eactly what you are looking for as its not microATX and it does not list VIA C3 Nehemiah CPU compatibility and I dont know if it would support it as I dont have one of those CPUs. =/
