I use this stuff with either direct sunlight or black lights and it works a treat! I just kinda 'paint' it on the plastic parts and let them sit there for 2-3 hours. I had to go to a beauty supply store though because no other places carry this stuff with the high concentration % of peroxide. Use gloves and wear eyewear - it will burn!

I've used cream peroxide too but I tend to get some streaking/'brush stroke' effect which is quite noticeable after rinsing and drying. Has that happened to you?

I work in a chemistry lab...I'm going to try out a few of my own concoctions. Instead of xanthan gum, using hydroxyethylcellulose (easier to clean up). instead of hydrogen peroxide, a high concentration of carbamide peroxide with propylene glycol instead of glycerin. Peroxides activate with UV, water, and heat, so I'll try a black light. No heat, since that could warp some plastic parts.

Carbamide peroxide should be safer to work with, though a slightly longer application time is needed. It also comes in a granular form, so initial mixture would be more like a paste until it dissolves in the propylene glycol.

Also, I got in a Pro Audio Spectrum Plus card and 386DX-40Mhz motherboard with math-co-processor. OH...and got 24 3.6v Tadarin batteries for $22 shipped. 24 of them! woot1

Surely the performances are poor, but for the use as Linux home server I think it is fine, especially for the low noise. And yep... SDRAM on Pentium IV wasn't a big deal, but this EVO series was introduced for office use, not extreme gaming for sure...

Even so, I'd much rather have had a cheaper PIII of 1 GHz, which would've been no slower at the very least, and lighter on power as well. Still, definitely worth keeping one of those around, because many early P4 systems are probably long-since junked due to their woeful performance.

One of the sellers I've bought laptops from in the past on eBay (oopsilon-it) has a whole bunch of Pentium 1 laptops, some working, some not. There's a couple of decent looking Tecra 750DVDs that are dirt cheap (£4 + £9 P&P), but sadly they're missing the hard drive caddy and possibly the connector as well, and sourcing those parts is impossible right now; I also have absolutely no fabrication skills to make a hard drive caddy. A shame, otherwise I'd have both...

I agree with you, in fact this is a PC that as often it happens I've saved form the road 😀 Also I much prefer a nice Pentium III to those tractors of Pentium IV.

That's some seriously drool-worthy 3dfx gear there Artex!

What makes the Voodoo4 so rare? The fact that it's specifically for Mac?

These came out right before the demise of 3DFX... For this reason, not a whole lot were sold in comparison to the earlier cards and because these were basically castrated versions of the 5500, using only a single VSA-100 chip and smaller 32MB framebuffer.

Congratulations everyone!
This thread is now 286 pages long! Could anyone post a pic of a 286 he got recently? There must be a 286 on page 286 😀

What's your bet on in what time the next "round" number arrives? 2 years until 386? Or one day until 287?

Got this GTX 260 for $12... not retro, I know, but this is....I got this weird looking 'telecommunications guru' laptop thingy for a few dollars...it's fully functional complete with P166 CPU and Windows 95.
I think it's some sort of internet connection testing computer...it has a boatload of front accessible dip switches and some sort of telecom ports...obviously I am ignorant about what thing is and what it's used for 🤣

Being HP test gear, it'll be built like a tank. You'll probably be able to find manuals and stuff online pretty easily.

At a glance, it looks like it may be a successor to devices like my 4953A protocol analyser.

Bought a suspicious YAMAHA YMF-744 XG sound card cheap as is.

http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6346060335.html

file.php?mode=view&id=16387&sid=9a14d32cc7feea1c1846369000874cc3

The card was arrived over one month, but anyway arrived as this amazing price. Driver CD was broken. 😢

file.php?mode=view&id=16388&sid=9a14d32cc7feea1c1846369000874cc3

They still made this card in 2014 38th weeks. Analog device AC97 chip with 1999,33weeks 744 chips.

Amazing thing is this card installed with intA support in DOS. My another hoontech or Xwave never reached it.
At first this card set IRQ12 so I change IRQ12 assign to Legacy ISA in BIOS setting.
Problems are this card is not well auto-detection, no Game port and no Digital Output. (It's $4 with shipping)

file.php?mode=view&id=16389&sid=9a14d32cc7feea1c1846369000874cc3
Perfect sbpro in DOS. The volume should adjust if connect with headphone.

file.php?mode=view&id=16390&sid=9a14d32cc7feea1c1846369000874cc3

Setting in Windows 98. Recommend for cheapest PCI SBPRO card as ever.

Got this "lunchbox", a Sharp PC-7000:

Don't ask what I plan to do with this. I have no idea. It's in pretty bad condition too, but for €20, I couldn't pass this up. Plus, it would have ended up in the shredder...

Yes you're right this thing is built like a tank...and its pretty darn heavy too. That's the reason I saved it from being 'ecycled'...I love the solid construction and the fact that it still works.

Wow I looked up that protocol analyser you mentioned...that thing is very cool. Looks like an old trs80.

I managed to find some information online about my hp. From what I've read I gather that it still has the original stock software setup installed...I may have to look into it a bit more when I get some time. I have too many projects on the go right now 🤣. I'm going to have to store it away for a while.

I mentioned this previously. Apparently, some people are seeing more of the picture than others but yeah, there's really no need for pics higher than 800x600 resolution and any paint program can shrink them so no excuses.

Voodoo 4 for PC you can still find on ebay fairly regularly. Voodoo 4 for Mac is practically non-existent. Voodoo 4 for Mac NIB or CIB is just too rare for words.

BTW, here's a thread from about 5 years back where rottentreats posts his boxed 3dfx collection that Artex bought from.

With all the 3dfx going on, I will add my recent ebay win to this thread. Picked up a Voodoo Rush for $13 shipped! Besides having a notoriously bad 2d core is there anything else noteworthy about these?

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1
