Hi, I purchased this sd card to IDE adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006307922050.html
In the description it says this: "This card supports PIO, Multi-word DMA and Ultra DMA Host data transfer modes"

Is this motherboard: DFI CA64-TC. I have DMA mode on AUTO in bios (only options are auto or disable). I'm using a pentium 3 tualatin 1400S

When installing windows 95, all works, until I install the drivers for the motherboard (VIA 4in1 Chipset Driver downloaded from https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/dfi-ca64-tc#driver). When I activate DMA on Windows 95, after installing drivers, windows 95 gets corrupted and forces me to reinstall the OS.

These adapters are not compatible with DMA? only with PIO? That whould be a very huge issue, I have random freezes when copying data or executing sofware that uses hard drive, and I think those freezes are caused by PIO mode.

Maybe it's an issue with the drivers?

Thank you.

While the Sinitechi SD-IDE bridges do UDMA when attached to most IDE controllers, it's been reported that the cannot do UDMA when attached to a VIA 686b south bridge.

Consider using a small Msata device with a Sata-Para bridge if that's an option for you.

I wonder if it's due to the firmware in use on those adapters or due to the design of the board.
I think they all use the same FC1307 chip, those sintechi adapters, even the SD2CF adapters.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

I have had issues with the sintechi SD bridges not functioning in UDMA mode at all on ALI or Opti chipsets as well.

Multiword DMA works fine though, and is better than nothing.

so definitively is not compatible with sata?

then, which cheap motherboard should I search which is compatible with sd card adapter and supports tualatin?

i tought via chipset was very common and most of the tualatin boards use them

EDIT... are you sure? read this:

I have recently read a report on this forum that the via 686b south bridge doesn’t like talking udma to sinitechi sd to ide bridges

Edit, my mistake, Darry was talking about pata/sata bridges

specifically note this point: "Edit, my mistake, Darry was talking about pata/sata bridges"

My report concerns use of a sintechi SD->IDE adapter inside a fujitsu lifebook with an ALI based PCI IDE controller.

The system just straight up hangs in the bios detection phase if you try to enable ultradma mode on the device. Windows likewise will just hang if you try to enable it.

Works just fine if I disable UDMA mode, and force MW-DMA2 instead.
