Damn, you guys are lucky. I have yet to come across the e-waste recycler who processes everyone’s throwaways so I’m always paying top eBay dollar for my ‘finds’.

Some very recent ones, in no particular order:

• Thinkpad A22m
• IBM PS/2 trackball mouse
• Creative CD-RW 4x2x24x Sept 1999
• Yamaha CD-RW CRW4416E 4x4x16 June 1999

Nice. I archived that card over at -0° awhile back. I'd be curious if you have slightly different drivers that need archiving.

If you ever find time it would be great if you could image those and send them to modem7 @ VCF.

Finally got my Quadchrome that i posted about earlier while everyone where busy discussing ozone (not the band).
As far as I have gathered it is a very rare screen even for beeing EGA so i am quite happy if it works. I have cleaned it, but it is yellowed badly. Two nice surprises tough, it came in the original box and Styrofoam, how many of these boxes are still around i wonder? 😅 Also what looked like scratches on the ebay photos where actually just glue residue that i easily removed. That where probably from one of those filters they used to put in front of the CRTs at the time.
Still wondering about painting the "beige" part industrial grey, maybe the case of my IBM 5162 too, that would look awesome with my industrial M.

that would make sense seeing as the 5151/5153/5154 were all painted as well. I think you'd get better results and end up with a nice texture without the hassle/brittleness of retrobrite

I had this same monitor but sold mine because the tube was getting really dim and I had picked up a 5154

In the past weeks I managed to get my hand on not only one, but two Radeon HD4870X2 cards with the somewhat rare Arctic Cooling aftermarket cooler. Haven't tested them yet, though.

Now I need to get a Crossfire-capable motherboard and a 1000W power supply.
Any recommendations on motherboard/CPU combinations that would not bottleneck a quad GPU setup and is somewhat period correct and affordable?

I'd probably go for a Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge i7 or any modern CPU if your daily driver mobo is up to the task. I'd expect it's performance somewhere around (likely below due to bad scaling with CFX) the HD7970.

I see it's a lottery board, have to check if it has real cache.

Tested with cachechk and it seems to be functional.

Would a soundforte SF16-FMP-03 with vibra 16s be an ok sound card for this 486 machine or would I be better off getting something older and use this one in my p1 mmx PC? Can't find a lot of info about it.

Thanks

Is it yellowed beyond repair? If it's not broken - do not fix it.

Nice find. I’ve got on the back burner a desire to pick up a second 5970 to Crossfire in an ultimate 2009 build as well.

Would a QX9650 work and be period-correct? I’d be curious if there are any CPUs from 2007-2008 that wouldn’t bottleneck and you’d be better off aiming for a CPU from 2009, like the i7 975.

Aim for the 1000W and throw in a couple of 150GB Raptors in RAID and you’ll be flying (for 2008) 🤓

The tube on this one does not look dim at all from what i can see. I fired up the 5162 with an generic CHIPS EGA card and the screen goes completely dark. When it is disconnected or the computer is off i get this vertical band (same as on ebay listing). I might send it to repair, if it is not a simple fix. I have a repair shop locally here.
Can a capacitor or several of them cause this?

careful, that's not EISA but a UMC proprietary local bus 😉

I have a 386/486DLC board that has 2 of those slots and it's backwards compatible with ISA cards, which is nice. EISA cards won't work, sadly and finding local bus cards are hard to find.

They probably labeled it "EISA" since they used the same type of connector as actual EISA motherboards. Similarly, I've seen VESA Local Bus motherboards where the VLB slots are labeled "MCA" because it's the same connector used by the IBM Microchannel Bus (flipped backwards).

But that is definitely a custom local bus slot, don't insert any EISA cards there as they may get fried.

Learnt that the hard way and 1 of the cards I have burnt a trace and I patched it after that.

My board still runs without issues, but it's in storage at the moment since I installed a Jetway OPTi495SX 3/486WB Local Bus board.

Another super elusive specimen 😁

Guess this one was plagued by limited production quantities and pressure for Cyrix to move to higher frequency / PR ratings to attempt competing with Intel and AMD back in 97.

Will put it to the test soon.

Bought and received a couple of days ago, but I've been away on holiday so only got around to opening the package today.

Couldn't resist another retro Console purchase to add to my collection, I don't see these crop up for sale very often and certainly not for as good a price as I paid -

An "Adman Grandstand" branded Fairchild Channel F.

In need of a bit of a clean, but otherwise seems in full working condition.

I'm too young to have ever experienced one of these back in the day, they seem relatively obscure and hence I don't see them come up for sale very often. In fact, I wasn't even looking for one, I was looking for something else and accidentally stumbled upon an eBay listing that had 0 bidders and was ending soon. I put a bid in towards the end, fully expecting to be outbid and ended up being the only bidder. No love for the poor Fairchild Channel F it seems.

I only have the 1 cartridge at the moment and it isn't a very exciting one, so I'm keeping my eyes out for other games. In the meantime I can enjoy Pong & Tic-Tac-Toe. 🤣
