the seventh console generation era was awful as far as I'm concerned

Huh??!!
Xbox360, Playstation3 and Wii are awesomme consoles. Just as good as 6'th generation. Personally I only have 7'th generation these days, as I find it a royal PITA, to find a way to hook those consoles up to my living room television. And I dont want to use lots of money to convert them into HDMI capeable coonsoles.

Well, I mean the consoles were loud, ran very hot (which caused many of them to fail) and the games ran like ass all too often. The coveted 15-30 fps cinematic experience. Not counting Wii I guess, only passingly tried that once or twice so can't really speak of it. But that's just how I saw it, each to their own. Only specifically console game(s) from 7th gen I personally kinda miss are Guitar Heros.

But I was talking about the games in general around that time, I guess we all have our "golden era" of gaming and mine started to end around 2005.

First versions of Xbos360 and Playstation3 were loud and broke easy. Wii never were. The versions that I have (Xbox360-S from 2010 and Playstation3 from 2009) are both running silent and stable. The games are also good enough. It all depends on what you wish to play. And yes, at launch there were not that many great games. But that have changed through the span of the consoles life cycle. The same was true at the launch of Playstation2 and first Xbox. Actually almost all consoles have this issue at launch, in regards to games library.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Heath/Zenith 150 (xt upgraded to nec v20)
Abit Tx5-based PC with some drives and decent supporting parts (and a great AT mini tower)
About 1000 floppies- a mix of 3.5, 5.25 hd, and 5.25 dd- stored well so hopefully there are a lot of good media for use.

I say bought because I paid in labor to remove and clean up after removal, but no dollars exchanged hands.

Maybe a mod, maybe it's related to the revision. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks, I don't plan to push it to the P4's limit, I'll probably try to overclock a northwood Celeron that I have over 3GHz. Do you think the capacitors are a mod or can it be because of a later revision than the ones we see on the Net ?

I've never seen a motherboard from that era with those type of capacitors. What is typical of motherboards of that era is to have failing capacitors that need to be replaced. I've an Amptron SiS 645 motherboard where I had to replace all but the smallest capacitors.

The Wendell caps on the P4S are absolute garbage tier, as well as all the other brands they used in 2001. Mine has 4 year old Rubycons, the secondaries that werent blown were out of spec. Weird reset/sleep issues, hard and soft Windows locks. Before the initial primary recap it would crash as sooon as the CPU hit 100% load.

The mouse ps/2 port has a massive stutter since it shares an IRQ with the Cmedia audio, disabling audio or changing IRQs fixes this. If it doesn't crash it's been recapped. If you run 3 sticks of ram you can run ddr 333mhz, but 3 sticks is limited to 266 speeds. Haven't played around with ddr400 yet. I didn't much like the onboard LAN, I remember my CPU usage being higher compared to a Netgear Gigaboot card. The Highpoint IDE controller is fast by ATA133 standards, but the VIA ones are slow. RAID0 7200rpm drives = vroom

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

The ASUS P2B-D Rev 1.06 D03 Arrived today and once I give it a quick test run Ill be doing the mod detailed here Asus P2B-DS Rev 1.06 FSB Modification to it. Got a nice pair of PIII 667 CPUs for it along with a Voodoo5 5500, should be a fun Win2k/XP system.

Would have loved the SCSI version but the non SCSI board is pretty rare and the SCSI version even more so, anyone have a good recommended PCI SCSI card to pair with this board?. (I guess Sata Raid is also and option with a pair of Velociraptors or SSD)

Will do a bigger write up of the build when I get it modded and setup.

That sounds like a great build in the making. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your build thread!

Thank you for all this information. I planned a Raid 0 of 7200rpm drives actually (both Excelstor Jupiter).

Do you think making an ISO out of the provided CD would be of any use ?

Just had a thought which out of a Voodoo5 5500 or a GeForce 256 DDR 64Mb would you go with ? I feel a Voodoo5 5500 would fit nicely but the 256 would provide a wider range of games that could be run and might possibly be more compatible. There is also the GeForce2 GTS/Ultra as an outside option but might have issues with the AGP port on this board, the seller did note that this board is known to have issues with later AGP 4x cards.

I have the cards so I could switch between them but I love reading what other Vogons would choose and why, its also fun to read other cards they might go with.

Here is the case that will host the Soyo P4S. It needs some cleaning though.
I found a grey Sony/Nec Optiarc DVD reader to fit the case color but I don't have it yet.

I need other ideas to fill the 5.25 bays (with grey/aluminium stuff so it fits the case).

The graphics card will be a Voodoo 5 5500 Vantec version. That's why I don't need a very powerful 478 CPU.
Not 100% sure about AGP compatibility so I will navigate the bios with a PCI card and try a cheap AGP card on the AGP slot first.

It looks dirty and corroded.
A thorough clean and dousing in contact cleaner might help.
And whats that mess in the CPU socket? =)
2 tantalums and 2 electrolytics sharing the same pads?
