edit: Aha, it's one of those mythical "Book PC" units. Maybe Amptron made it.

It's virtually identical to the i810-based one I have which is variously branded PCChips / ECS / Amptron.

This thing is Socket 7 though, and has a K6-III in it, though it doesn't seem to support it properly.

I got this A-Trend ATC-5300 board with bulged cap and missing bios chip,
when I received the board, the clock gen crystal was also chopped off, typical recycler drooling over crystals and dip ICs.

I got bunch of 14.318Mhz crystals but all of my eeprom chips are plcc32, so I'm gonna make a plcc32 to dip32 adapter and hopefully it works.

nice, you can also make a better photo (after cleaning and fixing it up 😀 and pass it on to the retroweb guys.
The current page https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/a-trend-atc-5300 is missing a good photo.

plcc32 to dip32 should work fine.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Nice to have a DVI output to use with an HDMI screen.

Nice card and great price, especially with DVI!😃👍
Be prepared for some frustration trying to get the port working with modern screens though. The DVI chips are still rather quirky on early GeForce cards. If you don't get a picture with HDMI don't assume it's broken. It may just be a compatibility issue.😎

That's so cool and a beautiful card. Good luck with it! I would love to see it working. Kind of cool that the Silicon Image chip is present all the way to the FX chips and maybe beyond. I see a similar chip on my nVidia cards anytime there's a DVI port present.

Awesome... it's either the same SGI card I've got or the same reference design. I don't suppose you would be so kind as to post a high res picture of the back would you? Mine has got some SMD damage I need to get fixed up.

edit: ah lookie, specific DVI info... SGI V3 GeForce 256 and DVI

I was looking for a CPU, and I came by luck on this lot (because it also contained an Athlon XP).
Local ads site. The main ad picture only depicted the CPU and I recognized the GeForce on the third picture. (Misspelled "G Force" in the description)

I already have another GeForce DDR, but the most basic one. VGA only, basic design, nothing fancy. And I'm using an active (USB powered) VGA to HDMI converter to use it on my 4 way HDMI/USB KVM.

Will try to use the native digital output signal.

Just tested it this evening. Unfortunately could not test the DVI output (no DVI screen at hand's reach). Worked perfectly on my CRT.

I took better pictures. I hope it will help. Unfortunately, I don't own a good digital camera. I just have my crappy phone camera.

Feel free to ask for some pictures of specific areas.

(Thanks for the link with details about the DVI out)

This has a silicon image IC that drive DVI. Shouldn't be a issue.

Cheers,

Yes, it seems that this chip has been used for a wide range of cards for years !

Will try the digital out asap.

Got this today, and it will be my first 486 gig(always played at friends house, but never had one). I'm very excited about this. Got it from a dealer that always sell stuff at a fair/cheap prices.

Video Card: Trident VL46C-V2
Storage Controller: Winbond KDDPT1255W
Motherboard: 486 VPT
Processor: Texas Instrument 486DX2-80

I have no clue were to start hahaha. Will use mostly for DOS games. Already have a Yamaha OPL3 card for this gig. Now time to look for a horizontal case. gotek and CF to IDE adapter. Will make a post about the journey as soon as I grab a case.

You might want to start at 33/66 for first setup, 40mhz/80 can be a bit finnicky.

I purchased my first reto motherboard yesterday. A ASUS P2B Rev. 1.10 with Pentium 2 400mhz processor included. The cpu might get replaced soon in case I get Celeron 733 cpu that is rumored to be there at our local flea market this weekend.

I am also biding for geforce 2 gts graphics card at the moment and have mx 440 on my watchlist on ebay.

I've been slowly parting out the desktop AT case, cleaning and refurbishing its innards the last few days. I will put it back together with a 286 motherboard I repaired last year and replace my current 386SX PC with it as a 1987-1989 .

Here are the spoils so far:

A strange 386SX motherboard. It's an Intel 386SX-20 integrated board with only SIPP and DIPP sockets, no SIMM slots, which is really weird. It's also completely undocumented on TheRetroWeb. It's a fine 386SX board with more or less 286-20 equivalent performance and 386 instruction set conveniences, so I'll be keeping it. I have more compact and integrated 386SX boards with Am386SX-25/33 CPUs but this is my first Intel.

My first Hercules card. Hercules was the graphics that first introduced me to PC gaming with our AT clone, and to this day I still think it was superior to CGA. I will defend that view until the end of time. I have no idea what a Hercules card from 1991 was doing inside a 386SX PC from 1992, though.

A run of the mill Multi-IO card with the M5105 chipset. Back when I first got into this hobby about five years ago I was putting together a 486 PC and had no Multi-IO cards. A fine gent on this forum generously sent me one to help me finish that build, and it was an M5105 that I still keep (and use as my favorite!) to this day. I thought it was fitting that my 10th Multi-IO card was also an M5105.

Will be great for DOS i imagine. i don't have anything to add other than those TI chips looks good with the TI logo, the italic font and the windows logo in color!

i like the idea that there is a rumor mill about such things 😀

A "pssst, word on the street is that a celeron's in town"
B "oh yeah, what kinda mhz are we talking"
A "might be high, maybe even 733"
B "hmmm, interesting" [hands over $5] "say, maybe you know whereabouts?"

@Gerry Yeah it really would be funny if things would happen like that. The rumor in my case is bit more concrete though. A collector comes here every to sell stuff every year. Word has it that hey is going to sell most of his stuff minus some few selected gems.

Was talking with about building retro pc last year already (never found time and courage to start until now and he recommended me intel 440bx chipset and celeron 733 mhz as good starting point. He also told me that is not going to sell such part though so I need to look somehwere else.

I want to check if the celeron 733 is among the parts he is supposed to sell or if the celeron is among the few selected gems he is going to keep.

Why a 733MHz Celeron though? You should be able to procure a Pentium III 1000B easily and run it at 750MHz if your board can't handle 133MHz FSB.
Is the Celeron another OC champion?

PIIIs around the magic Ghz never seem that cheap though. I think the idea must be to get the fastest 66 Mhz FSB Celly and run it at 100, thus at 1100.

Supply lines didn't move as fast in that era, and there would have been levels of stock caching, meaning parts might not make it to market until they were a good 6 months old. What was happening around that time though, was that Herc/Mono monitor was still base level graphics for words and numbers, so a builder might have ordered a large case of the cards for the quantity discount, to be able to offer the card/monitor combo at $99 instead of $499 which I think was around what the cheaper VGA options fetched then. The WordPerfect/1-2-3 DOS business app hegemony was coming to an end around then, it's possible that mono cards had been stocked up, but ceased continual manufacturing. Though POS applications were using mono through the mid 90s still.
