Welp, sadly it seems that the Chaintech 5IFM 430HX board is dead 🙁

No POST, tested with anything I could think of - different SIMMs, different CPUs (P166 standard, P133, P233MMX, Cyrix 6x86) and even different PSUs. None would get a POST or beeps out of it.

At least the GPUs (GTX 1050 2GB without 6pin PCI-E, XFX HD7970 3GB w/ missing fans) both work, and one has already been cleaned (GTX1050). Waiting on ordering a parts card for the other one. That, or getting a different heatsink altogether. (I don't mind the slightest slapping a MSI or a Sapphire cooler on it, as long as it can use the 4pin fan header that's on the XFX.)

Fair use/fair dealing exception

Got this X800 GTO for 15 EUR from my local classifieds. The plan is to use it in a LGA775 build for dual-booting Win9x and WinXP. I did some preliminary testing and it seems to work fine. Drivers installed under Win98SE without too many issues. I did have to remove a bogus "Standard Display Adapter" before the drivers would work, but after that, it was smooth sailing. Still needs a lot more work, but things do look promising so far.

This is what I got today, bought these socket A boards 10€/kg, which practically translates to a 10€/piece. No guarantees if they work, but they do look excellent and hopefully are at least repairable:

At minimum I'd imagine a few caps might need replacing. They do look in good condition though!

Yeah, that is something to be expected and I probably change the VRM caps any case. But these look good indeed, no bulging and leaks and boards are very clean overall.

It's unlikely to help, but did you try deoxidizing and reseating the BIOS chip? If you have a chip programmer and know which version is flashed, you can also try to validate that it isn't corrupted.

Already reflashed to latest version with another mainboard (Luckytech P5MVP3 Rev1.3), no dice.

I can get memory to just over 224mhz but core will not go past 172mhz 🙁.

That's the first thing I tried 😁

Wow ! It's impressively low !
Regular 5200 sould normally run at 250 core / 200 mem. Or something like that

I wonder how well this would compare to a TNT2 or a GeForce 2 MX, 🤣. I suspect that it might even be slower than the GeForce 2 Ultra.

It got about 300 points lower in 3dmark 999 than my tnt 2 (viper 770) I had to return viper as it had bad vram and i didn't fancy swapping the chips. Max core clock i can get is 165mhz stable. Memory goes all the way up to 250mhz.
Ahh well. LF = Junk. I'll keep the box, sell the card. Buy a decent MSI 5200 then sell that boxed and put the money towards. Y voodoo 3 .

I wanted to point out that this STB Voodoo 2 seems covered by a "lifetime warranty".

Since STB was bought by 3dfx which in turn was bought by nVidia, I guess you would need to contact them for a replacement Voodoo2. They might have kept a stock just in case.

Cheers,

I found them on a german selling site. www.kleinanzeigen.de

I found some documentation about the newer silver one, and it seems to be x86 (AMD Geode) and compatible to dos, linux, windows ...
The beige one will probably be something similar

I'm certain that the response would be along the lines of, "send us your proof of purchase or order receipt."

Although I would be incredibly impressed if a replacement were to be obtained in this way. Please keep us updated no matter the response, for posterity.

can't find any info at all on google.
the model says br549 which i thought was a joke since that was phone number from the tv show heehaw and apparently also a band.
it does work so i think i'll probably keep it.
