I've seen them a couple of degrees off straight from the factory, but that one looks a bit more than that. It's like, of course you overpaid, Voodoo prices are crazy, but if you were bound and determined to get one, I think you did well.

i'll just pretend i bought this new for $300 and i let someone store it for me for 23 years.

i wanted something other than a geforce 256 for my dell precision 220.
so i finally joined the voodoo5 club.
i wasn't planning on going boxed but, this one popped up for less than what the non-boxed ones were going for.
i shouldn't be happy about paying $300 for this but, you guys know how it is.
sellers photos. one heatsink seems a bit crooked, not really sure why. guess we'll see.
super excited and i'll post more photos once it's finally installed.

I panicked a bit sometime a year or so ago and went and bought myself two Voodoo 5s off of eBay before they could hit four digits on the collectors market. I don't regret it, even if it was quite expensive. One less thing to worry about in my collection.

Just remember that $300 23 years ago is like $one bazillion today, so seen in that light, you're good 😁

Well the place I worked at finally closed down for good this week, but in the final days they were selling off all of the old staff equipment, so I managed to score an absolute bargain in this 20" CRT TV for just £10 -

Nothing super special as far as CRT sets go, but as I didn't have one in my collection, the price was right. Both PAL & NTSC compatible, so pretty much works with everything I've thrown at it, including the Super Famicom being tested in that pic. The TV is still nice and bright, as it was hardly ever used. They only used it for a couple of hours each year for staff training videos.

So as I now have a CRT TV, I bought some Light Guns to take full advantage of it:

The Master System Light Phaser & the NES Zapper. Both in good & working condition. I've been having fun playing a lot of light gun games with these, such as Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman, Hogan's Alley, Safari Hunt & Operation Wolf, among others.

Have you tested it yet ? How much capacity?

I recently got one too in a very big lot. Not tested since I got it in July.

Hi !
Yes - I've tested it - works fine - no bad sectors !
It is 105MB capacity Quantum drive (firmware says LP52S).
If you wanna write to it..... it requires atdosxl.sys driver loaded :]

Looks like it has a WD1002A-WX1 MFM controller and rebranded Tandon TM262 drive.
"Seek" should sound fantastic....

Phew! Glad it works. That disk doesn't look all that replaceable, even though it says it's a quantum. (Which I was guessing from the pic due to the shape) Though I guess maybe you can swap electronics over with an IDE.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

actually, take back what i said. These are pretty decent once tuned. Feeding these with iFi Zen DAC with "power match" and "true bass" active and FLAC files whilst dialing down the bass knob from mid on the z623, really nice at comfortable listening volume 😀

Not retro but for retro, some tantalums.
1µF 50V with 3.3% Vloss, ESR from 5 up to 10 ohms. Yes, from China.
10µF same 3.3% and ESR from 1.5 to 5 ohms.

Already refunded, but quality is awful. Yeah, reputable sellers only... 😀

An AX1200i for 55 free shipping and another socket 939, this time an ABIT with K8T800 Pro VIA chipset finally. I have 2 939's which are nforce3 pain in the backside for win98.

Looks like a Hewlett Packard Vectra VL2 4/100 which would be a 486DX4/100 possibly with PCI.

Almost more interesting was talking to the guy I got it from. Easily in his 70’s, retired, used to teach design at the college I work at now and still does it on the side. He’s got a Windows 7 PC with Photoshop and Illustrator he still uses to get stuff done - but it’s crazy slow.

I told him that while he could probably afford a new PC, I doubt he’d want to both pay for and learn the newest versions of Photoshop and Illustrator. I’m going to go through my stash of parts and see how much speed boost an SSD, maxing out RAM and a cleanup of Windows will get him while letting him keep the same application suite he already knows.

Nice, looks like a good $50 worth. That mouse is ZDS in the Bull era I think. IDK what I'd go with for a Win7 bruiser, something like a Phenom II x6 on AM3+ or i7-4790 or something. Can prolly go later, that's just what I think of.

Given those are on a subscription service now, they're really expensive to use over the long run.

I’m assuming it was plenty fast for the time, so I’m hoping that if I can refresh the Windows 7 install while keeping his Adobe licenses and moving to an SSD + maxing out RAM will be more than good enough.

This is actually a pretty good buy these days for one that's complete in box. It's too bad they're going for so much, but in-box is always kinda special. So if you really wanted one, I think you did great. There have been things I paid $300 for because I wanted that thing which were maybe not objectively worth $300 but I was happy to pay it anyway, and never regretted it. Just depends on how bad you want it.

In about the past month or so, I picked up:

  • AGP Creative Labs 3d Blaster TNT2 Ultra for $55
  • ASUS 333mhz Pentium 2 motherboard with processor and 128mb ram for $77
  • PCI Voodoo 3 for $70
  • PCI Creative Labs Graphics Blaster Riva TNT for $60
  • PCI Diamond Voodoo 1 for $150. I overpaid on this one because I really wanted specifically a Diamond brand Voodoo 1, and I didn't feel like waiting or bidding. This was the first 3d card I ever saw/used in person, my friend's dad had one when they first came out, and I played Quake on it, and it was mindblowing. Anyway, sometimes you know you overpay but you're happy to do it anyway.

I've omitted my various purchases for the C64 and Amiga.
