Yep, got plenty of bits for a nice late model 386 machine, not sure I will even venture into 286 or XT territory unless its a complete working system. I already feel like buying 386 era parts is taking a risk of DOA parts simply due to their age and while I'm ok with a soldering station I dont have anywhere near the experience required to diagnose and repair stuff of that age. Best to leave that to the more knowledgeable out there to deal with so I dont go killing parts that could have been saved.

A 286 is a DOS machine, its fun for early DOS games but I can't think of a reason other than that to own one. I have a 5170 and I love it, but its a period piece, once I get the EGA monitor repaired it will just run EGA stuff.

I used to own a 5170 when I was a kid (too long ago now) with lovely CGA graphics and a roaring MFM full height drive with a whopping 10Mb of space !. She was a beauty for sure but younger me was also pretty dumb and did some horrible things to that PC over the years I used it like deleting io.sys and command.com thinking I was saving HDD space. Great machine for its time but aside from being a decoration piece ..I just cant find a good use case for owning such a dinosaur today. (I would still love to own one for nostalgia reasons but it would honestly collect dust unused)

Watched Necro Hardware's video yesterday and commented on the chat "You inspired me to stop at my recycling center today" so after work I drove to my local place and found this Voodoo 3 3000.
It's a Dell variant, perfect condition and working great. Also found a Cyrix M II 300, a Geforce 4 MX420 a Creative DVD decoder card and a Pentium 4 single board computer, all for $14.

I may have gotten a backup for Popcorn, since it's not looking good. My original plan was to get an SC-88VL, and well... one was going cheap. I'd still rather have Popcorn, and I might end up selling it again eventually if Popcorn can be saved - but for now.

This lovely high end 875p Motherboard, got it for less than what it was listed for with a best offer to the seller.

Board has a ton of overclocking stuff including AGP and PCI speed clamps which are a nice thing to have, comes with a 3.2 Northwood but I have a 3.4 Northwood to throw at it too and some DDR500. Always wanted a halo 875 board to mess with so Im happy the seller accepted my offer for it !

Might look into what EE processors this thing will take, prices are pretty steep for the Gallatin CPUs so something to look into later.

Bought Roland MT-120 and a I believe a sound mixer? I don't have much experience in this area, but can i use this like Roland MT-32 for gaming in DOS?

A little research says this is an SC-55, essentially. So good for Doom, but not Monkey Island. 😁

Not too worried about that personally so I'm afraid you won't get data from me. This is going in a rack with an Audio Canvas, an MU, a GI-10, an Alpha, one of the plastic Studio Canvas's, a 3D Printed MT, hopefully an SC-D70, and a 3D printed Raspberry Pi half-rack case. There is little consideration of aesthetics here. 😁

I have a few options, a 9800XT would be spot on for this board for period correct, but was thinking a X800 XT PE would also fit ok, I have nvidia options too with a 6800 Ultra or 7900GS, the 7900GS is a 2006 card so would be the last shader based card I could use unless I find a X850 that isnt dead or stupidly expensive for what it is.

Not sure what it is with X850 based cards but they seem to either be DOA, partially DOA or cost as much as a 3DFX card. I guess most users ran them hard or ATI just didnt make a whole lot of them.

-Edit Going to throw the 9800XT in this board, itll be a nice match.

Well, not much luck today:

- X1900XTX PCI-E - dead it seems, my ABIT IP35 Pro stops at POST 90
-X1950XTX - POSTs but artefacts like hell
-ASRock 775i65PE Rev 1.03 - untested, was dustier than the Grand Canyon - missing NB heatsink atm.

Bought a Zenith Data Systems Z-Note 325Lc bundle (equipped with an AAUI NIC, a cable for the 8-pin mystery port, docking station/port replicator, detachable trackball mouse, documentation, charger, and the laptop itself with a failing 120MB HDD). My plan for the Zenith laptop is to attempt to archive the original drive and attempt to make an image of it so I can burn it to a CF card of 512MB or a 2GB SD card (SD2IDE) with XUB on a diskette.

And for my Panasonic PV-1540, an idler wheel since the current one lags a bit and it's ready to crumble into pieces.
