High Treason has got the portable bug... Nah, I just decided to fix my T1200XE. Nobody else bid on this one and it was fairly cheap, it's condition is unknown and no picture of it running is there...

My guess would be that the hard drive will almost certainly be dead but the XE uses regular 44-Pin IDE. I have the screen, mobo and AC adapter from my old one, pretty certain I have extra RAM too, so I should be able to make a working one with any luck. Maybe I can enjoy my first laptop again, be interesting to see how it fares against the Zenith.

For reference, the T1200XE has a 12MHz 286, CGA Graphics and less expansion capabilities where the Zenith has a 16MHz 286, VGA and a few more options. I never got to run them side by side back then because I got the Zenith to replace the T1200XE back when I needed it for daily use.

Just scored both of these for $9.70 after tax from local used store. No idea if they work yet, but they were definitely worth the gamble.

I've been checking there for years and never seen any 3dfx kit in there. Then just today when I just sold something on ebay and got paid and decided to stop by there on a whim, found these two.

I guess that they are not really shure what it is worth.
Normally I will avoid 3dFX stuff, unless it's the fastest for a specific system.
Normally nVidia is faster, yet sometimes 3dFX is better. (SS7 systems)

I'm looking at these purely for resale value and nothing more, I need the cash for upgrades for my more modern machines and if these work, this would be it.

I just won this PC for 20 Euro. It was advertised as a Pentium but I guess its an older system, perhaps a 286.

The shipping will cost me another 20 Euro but I do not mind becasue this AT case is awesome!

I don't really see a need to avoid a 3dfx card if it's PCI and as cheap as those were. Nothing to stop you running an AGP Nvidia (or ATI) card with a PCI Voodoo - it's what I'd do if putting together a killer P2/P3/Athlon system, or something like that.

Also, interesting case there Skyscraper - intrigued by the handles on the chassis. The whole thing kinda looks like a drawer from a cabinet!

cases with those sorts of handles were rack-mount towers usually installed in either a full server rack, or some sort of "wall" where only the front face was seen. It was obviously a server (or at least some sort of commercial product) at some point in time.

Seems like the v5 is missing a big cap. Could work without it maybe but i wouldn't take the chance and place a new one first.

Very nice deal anyway!

Actually I'm sitting here playing Quake III on it on my test machine right now and it's working perfectly. I think this is a early revision that doesn't use that spot or something, not sure but it works fine.

It seems the missing cap is a filtering one, so the card will work without it. Ofcourse for stability reasons you need it. Take a look on the solder pads and see if there was something soldered there, if not then the pads should be flat.

Nice Rack PC... I wonder what OS it would have had on it.. Some sort of Unix derivative no doubt?? The fact it has 3 floppy drives supports this, but then who knows if the 2nd 5.25" is connected.. It could have equally have been just some sort of firewall.

I hope to get my hands on a rack with servers soon to support my FTP server, as well as my goal to create a http website.. One day...... 😒

Years ago I broke off the same cap on a V5 plugging in the molex connector. The card worked but I ran into frequent glitches, some games more than others. At the time the though of sourcing a cap and soldering it on was crazy talk so I stupidly toss the card:( It's backup has been running smooth since but I sure wished I had the old one to fix now!
