Penultimate actually means 2nd best. So the V5 is penultimate and the v5-6k is ultimate.

That's what I was trying to say. The 6000 is ultimate, but since it is so rare it is unattainable for most people the 5500 is in practice the ultimate Glide solution.

Anyone know which one is newer/better and why?
Any difference between them two? Both of them are 10Mbps, any difference then?

bottom is newer. but as for "better". I don't think it matters at all. That said, the top one has rj45 and the bottom does not...

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Firstly, Hooker*'s big sister will be taking the place of my old fast 486... Yeah, this is the next Aquarius board up from the U5S and Am5x86 that killed everything on Phils VGA database for a while;
MB0.jpg

Prepared for a dead RTC battery and to solder on a new DIN port. I have a spare one of those RTC chips that doesn't have an internal battery somewhere so I may be able to retro-fit that as I'm going to have to take the soldering iron to this board anyway. Plan is, I'll install the OverDrive in this board so Hooker can return to using the U5S as I intended.

Of course, as a Pentium now lives in my fast 486 case, I will need a new one;

Makes a nice change from beige.

* For those who do not know, Hooker is a name I gave to my 486SX due to the original build being with junk components which didn't work very well... For some reason, I just felt the vision of an old hooker fit the personality of the machine.

Thanks for replies. What about if they both have RJ45 connector? On the top PCB says 1992 and the bottom one 1994. If they both have 10Mbps then is not real difference, am I right? I think I'm going to buy Etherlink III from 1995 with RJ45 connector for easy usage. Anyone know better choice for network card from mid '90 era? Any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated

On a 1024x600 display and I can see them fine... But I have a feeling I overrode the Zoom for my browser. Moved to PostIMG and scaled.

What an interesting AT black case! I kindda don't get why there is such a huge space between the keyboard connector hole and the PSU (since it is not ATX and has no backplate), but I've never seen such a modern-looking AT case, specially with a turbo button.

I have that same case that my Pentium 66mhz came in, its the usual off white. maybe the case was painted?

I was wondering why that PC was named "hooker". watching a bunch of High Treason's youtube videos last night and I kept hearing the name. now I can sleep soundly finally knowing.

Both can be configured via the 3Com etherdisk utility, but I believe only the 3c509b officially supports ISA PnP. Though, I haven't seen any actual documentation of this other than anecdotal talk. However, if you google for "3c509 non-PnP" there seems to be a lot of circumstantial verification of this. There are lots of cases where Windows XP would not recognize/detect the non-B version, supposedly because Windows XP only supports the PnP version.

The one thing that DOES appear verified based on notes from the linux driver for these cards is that only the B model support 10Mbps Full-Duplex operation (rare mode, but technically valid on certain switches).

I finally have found another Artist P200 😢
Now that I received it, I wish I hadn't... I even wrote the seller a heads up to ship it well...

As the hooker was created from beat up parts and named thereafter, I should really rename my temporaery "Blackie" to "Fluffer".
(Someone you bang until something better shows up, or the woman responsible for male erection during scenes in porn making)

It's supposed to be my top-Dos machine yet the mobo is due to be replaced with something that have a better AGP-Port.
And yes... It's supposed to be a top-nice and fast dos machine... You know... Hardware-porn = Boner/something. 😉 😁

Really a shame. I have never ever recieved something in that bad shape, unless I forgot to remind the seller about how to pack.
Once I lost a motherboard, as the seller forgot to remove the CPU-Fan. I know the feeling when recieving something broken.

Not really...
I know that Ebay has something like this. Just not if it is for every items/auctions on ebay.
Please contact them to hear if they can do something about it.

Can't get a no, unless you ask first. 😉
