Yeah... People (the seller/shop) just point mindless at it and mechanically shout...

"Butt... It's from Apple!" 😁

You bet your sweet patootie I bought it! I have not yet had an opportunity to really try it out though, primarily because I currently do not have any bootable 5.25 floppies.

You better open that up quick. They have a barrel battery inside.

Also, is that a 6300 or a 6300+? The 6300 is an 8086 machine. The 6300+ is a 286.

Just won a Dell Inspiron 8100 off of eBay for a little over $30. Not in the best condition but at least it does work.

90KHz/60Hz refresh rate. And it's a crisp image. Also it shows the POST sequence of my PC,displaying it as fast as my 22" Horizon LCD.

Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 v2.0 Motherboard. nForce2 Ultra-400 chipset, with the dual-port IDE RAID onboard, and SATA RAID onboard. Snagged it for $16.22 + free shipping, comes with (unknown) CPU and heatsink. Seller claims it works, was pulled from working machine so I'm hoping it does. Seller's pictures are used here. I think these are the latest and highest-end motherboards for Socket-A. I bought it personally because back when Socket-A came out, this was one of those setups that I saw on the display wall at my local Fry's years ago and dreamed of owning, but never did get to because they were like in the $250 region new and I never could afford one. And then as time went on, eventually they were discontinued, and then eventually we couldn't even find em used, at least not at decent prices. Traditionally they've been in the $150+ range for nice boards like this even used. So.. this was sort of an impulse buy.

Slightly Bigger: http://www.outfoxed.net/GA-7N400.jpg

EDIT: Fixed a typo

Nice board! I've got a 7n400s, a very similar one with one less memory slot and two less IDE channels. A solid performer 😀

Make sure you've got a hard drive fitted, otherwise it won't detect the fixed optical drive. Otherwise, those are very nice laptops! Be aware that the CMOS battery is built into the palmrest (of all things), and the metal underpart of the palmrest needs to be removed to get at it - when you re-fit that metal piece, it needs to have the tabs slid under the bottom of the palmrest (you'll see what I mean if you take it apart), or the lower mouse buttons will just flop around.

It is a standard 6300 as best as I can determine, I have not yet opened it up to physically examine the innards, and with no available boot disks I currently am unable to go beyond POST.

I have considered replacing the battery, as I do recall seeing a mention online somewhere that the 6300 is known to utterly drop dead at even the slightest hint of battery leakage. Would it be beneficial for me to retrofit it with a sealed replacement like the one shown below, or just replace it with the same type of battery that it currently has? The local BankruptShack currently has both types on clearance for 25 cents each.

No relation what so ever, my name has nothing to do with whom ever that is, I don't even know who it is.

I came up with this name years ago by mixing and matching parts of 'dragon names' in the index in the back of Anne McCaffrey's book "The Dragon Riders of Pern".

This post will be slightly more off topic than usual.
Nothing in this post is retro what so ever. Buy hey, it isnt a car! 😁

My system in my signature is a great system when it comes to heating up my chilly apartment during Swedens very long and cold winters.
Its not so great during Swedens short but very hot summers so I use to use one of my spare single CPU socket 1366 rigs during the summer so my AC can keep up.
I thought of building a new summer rig just to test some newer hardware as I diddnt own any newer stuff than socket 1366 systems.

I happend to see LinusTechTips 300$ PC challange and I thought it could be fun to see what I could get with little money from Swedish Ebay (Tradera).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1JA24KCAjE

All the gear below totalled 2880 SEK = ~300 Euro = A little over 300$
We have 25% VAT in Sweden so the stuff was much more expensive new than it would have been in the US so I think its fair.

CPU. I7 2600K, This was a steal, I got it for a very cheep buy out price 1 minut after it was listed 😀
I72600K.jpg

Motherboard. MSI P67A-GD65, This was also a buy out with a very fair price.
MSIP67AGD65.jpg

Memory. 4X 2GB Samsung DDR3. (I bought loads of these Samsung 2GB DDR3 modules for ~2 Euro each some time ago, like a big box full of modules)
Samsung4X2GBDDR3.jpg

Videocard #1. Gigabyte GTX580. This card I bought sometime ago for ~50 Euro, it wasnt even a snipe.
GigabyteGTX580Vanill.jpg

Videocard #2. Gigabyte GTX580. This card I got for cheap sold "as is", previous owner spilled coke and other stuff on it so its sticky and dirty.
GigabyteGTX580Windfo.jpg
bb6GigabyteGTX580Windfo.jpg

Storage. OCZ Revodrive3 X2 240 GB. Buy out shortly after it was listed. I got it for a fraction of what the drive is worth.
OCZRevoDrive3X2240GB.jpg

PSU. Corsair AX850. I got it for cheap as its defect, When it has been disconnected from the grid you have to turn the power switch on the PSU back and forth until it wakes up
CorsairAX850oldversi.jpg

Cooling. Zalman CNPS10X Extreme. I got it for next to nothing.
ZalmanCNPS10XExtreme.jpg

Case. What ever I will find in the electronic waste container.

Its crazy what you can get for a few hundred Euro these days 😁

I did also buy some other nice stuff which did not fit into the 300 Euro challange.

I7 3770 (not the K version but should do ~4200- 4300 MHz all cores at stock voltage)
I73770.jpg

Gigabyte G1 Sniper2. This motherboard is brand new but a "sample product". It has been on show in a window. The store sold this 400 Euro board for 100 Euro 😀
GigabyteG1Sniper2.jpg

4x 4GB Dominator GT 2133 MHz CL9 DDR3. Samsung revision D, pretty much the best DDR3 memory in existance. These were not very cheap 😀 ~120 Euro.
CorsairDominatorGT21.jpg

New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.
Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.

6 expansion slots? IMHO, too few. The standard is 8.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Cool! I love AT cases. I had one with a similar internal layout and got the impression that it was for later, smaller AT boards, like PCI socket 3's and later. Anything bigger clashed with that bar running down the middle.

Looking forward to seeing the completed build - I'll be interested to see what sound options you go with.

Hope, that I found time this month and complete my other 486 setup, focused on sound. Stay tuned :)

Got myself a complete PC for $5. The specs are far from impressive, it's a P166MMX in some cheapo 430TX board, 32MB SDRAM, S3 Trio64V2/DX with 4 RAM sockets, two of which are populated. I bought it mainly because of the case. It's a crocodile type desktop with 2-digit MHz display that actually says "MHz" after digits! It's in nice shape, the only drawbacks are yellowed front and lost rubber pads. It's also got a nice L-shaped AT PSU and a 5.25" drive!

I think I'm going to use this case for a 386 build in the distant future and sell the mobo\CPU\RAM set for small money to someone who needs this stuff, I've got too much already.

Very cool dog and an ace case! My beloved childhood 486 came in a case very similar to that flip-top bad boy and I loved how easy it was to pop the hood and get my hands dirty. Funny you call it a crocodile because it did bite me a couple of times, the sides are like guillotines.
