I bought another lot a week ago and it arrived today but I have not opened the package yet.

I tried to snipe this lot at the last second to get it cheap but my max bid turned out to be just enough. As long as most of the stuff works it was still decent value for money.

Here is the sellers pictures.

The barely visable Soundblaster 1.0 or 2.0 caught my interest.

Lot_from_Italy_1.jpg

I hope most of these work.

Lot_from_Italy_2.jpg

Two nice VLB video cards.

Lot_from_Italy_3.jpg

A 486 VLB motherboard and some overdrive CPU.

Lot_from_Italy_4.jpg

There was another image showing a Socket 7 board and some more images showing the HDDs in more detail.

I did also buy a boxed Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold and an IBM Aptiva 486 motherboard from the same seller but these were not included in the lot, everything was shipped together in the same huge box though.

This stuff should keep me occupied for a while.

Congrat's. Really nice haul.

Are you trying to build the ultimate pre-PCI 486 or something? You'll need a DX-50 for that! 😉

(had to "report" the state of the legs, as I forgot it at first in my post)....

Nope.... Not the ultimate. Just a 486 system, somewhat like the one I had back then. 😁
I am starting up on a 486 project, were I am about to search for and find some nice pieces for it. And as these two were free, and even the shipping costs were paid by the previous owner. I could not resist in getting them for my project. I am in the middle of this buying-process of a motherboard too. The seller has a lot of work at his job, so it is progressing at a slow pace. Anyway... My goal is to build a complete 486-class system, based on a 5x86-133 right before the end of this year. A nice xmass gift/present from me to me, I guess. 🤣

Bought IBM xSeries 220 server.

Sample image:
1219.jpg

Basic configuration:
2x 1.4GHz P-III Tualatin 512KB
1GB memory
3x 18GB SCSI HDD
Geforce2MX

I always liked xSeries and just couldn't resist 🤣

I'm running one of those right now as my file, NFS, FTP and appleshare server. Bump the ram to 2gb and add an extra 18gb drive independent from the RAID and you have a very nice and quiet Server 2003 box. I upgraded mine a little further with a gigabit ethernet card and three 300gb drives in the RAID.

Do you know if it takes also standard memory or only ECC? Don't have ECC memory at hand and prices for 512MB/1GB sticks are a little overpriced for my taste 😉 I think I'll swap the SCSI drives for 128GB ones and maybe larger some time later. But I don't really need much storage on this machine as it won't be a real server... just to play with it - install different OS's from 2K to Linux - not sure if it supports NT4. Too bad it doesn't have an AGP port...

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

Bought one of these on eBay for cheap. No need for AT Psu then. Just qurious on the quality.
(Still cheaper to solder my own)

You know, I almost feel as if I recognize the BIOS chip on that FIC 486-VIP-IO more than I usually would...

You'll want that VLB Card because the PCI is a crappy bridge on that board and don't be surprised when the configuration table reports no cache - opposite of the PCChips problem as checking the cache with software shows it is there and working except with certain jumper configurations.

I have one of those boards which I keep meaning to put on eBay and I still haven't gotten around to it.

Saw a video the seller made. It does have effect when setting WB versus VT cache. So yeah... I guess it does recognise cache.
I go for that VL-Bus because I want to have what I had back then. And as the HDD is onboard, I have no need for VL-Bus controller.

@BSA Starfire: That model of board works. It isn't the fastest and it isn't the slowest, it works with a wide range of processors and gets the job done just fine.

@Brostenen; Yeah, the cache thing seems to have been introduced a few revisions into the BIOS and never fixed by FIC. As it is cosmetic it isn't a real issue but I wasted many hours trying to figure it out on my board.

I prefer VLB to PCI on a 486 anyway, it just feels like this right thing to do for some reason. Having said that, I like my PCI system but that is because I am a mental case and enjoy hurting myself when things don't work in the way they were probably supposed to.

So the speed would still be affected, when you switch between WB and WT?
On the video, this board is faster when the cache is set to WB.

For me, this is really no issue at all. As I can just start a faster machine when speed is wanted.

Well... The board has a modded BIOS and is sold to me, by a fellow member in Romania... Ringing bells??? 😉

A couple of sealed goodies arrived today. My first Voodoo 2, believe it or not. And I never see boxed i740 cards, even the common AGP version.

ECC only unfortunately. 512mb sticks aren't that expensive these days.

It does. I think that chip is indeed one of mine. Cool. Think I still have the jumper configurations written down for making 5x86 chips to run on the board.

For the record, I didn't cause the bug with displaying cache, FIC did that and never fixed it.

Bought for under a tenner;

Looks like I have reverse engineering to do when I have moved, doesn't it?

Edit: Ah, by the time it gets here I shouldn't be living here... Oops. Well, I'm never going to get packed in time so stuff it. Could contact the seller and see if he will mail it to the new address.

I just ordered all of this stuff for ~8EUR shipped. I don't know if anything will work, I can clearly see that there are some chips missing, but i think they can be replaced really cheap by ordering them from aliexpress (that pentium mainboard is probably missing a chip manufactured by SEC which is available for 3 USD shipped on aliexpress and it's also missing BIOS but that's totally not a problem).

Could anyone identify these mainboards before I get them shipped? I'm particularly interested in that Socket 3 mainboard. I hope there won't be too much damage from possible battery leak. And it looks that it's missing cache memory. And that 286 is probably missing three logic chips and BIOS.
