It's interesting how "international" this forum is. There are members sharing -more or less- the same retro hobby.

Oh, i added one of these on my attempt of Retro Windows XP Machine, which is based on a Athlon 64 3200+ sk754, 2GB of ram and 500GB of hdd. It gave a new life to that machine as even Left4Dead2 is somewhat playable, even though it's a single core machine!

Good to know! I plan on putting it into my Athlon XP 3200+ machine 😀

You have a Creative Blaster VLB? Which organ did have to sell?

Bought it some time ago, didn't cost me an organ, but it's the single most expensive retro item I've bought 😉 The worst part is that later I managed to acquire a second card for almost nothing, but I traded that card with a member here on Vogons for a Neon250.

The card itself loves CPU power and is quite a disappointment on a DX2-66 or DX4, which was its intended market. You can find a video on Youtube with all the supported games that I filmed directly from the monitor. It's a bit fun to see the quality difference with using that technique compared to a proper VGA capture card like the DVI2PCIe.

Just been given from work:

HP Workstation XW4300 (the Pentium D model),
eMac A1002,
Apple Macintosh G5 (single core model).
Some HP scanner. Will take pictures in a bit. All great condition! The greatness that comes with working as an IT technician for a national newspaper company 😊 😊

Yesterday I received a package from a fellow VOGONS member containing a boxed Roland SCC-1 and a boxed Roland CM-500. Great stuff!
Last week I traded one of my Turtle Beach Rio wavetable boards for a Terratec wavetable board (a revision that I did not own yet) and a Roland MPU-401AT.
Besides that I will soon be making another trade for an Ensoniq Soundscape DB. So it seems there are still opportunities for extending my collection after a bit of a slow period.

Congrats on some nice synths!

I quite like EISA graphics cards these days...

This one has the option to speed up or slow down VRAM access... either 80 or 100ns. How practical or useful this is I have yet to ascertain.

I always liked that S3 logo. Perhaps the latency thing would be useful for speed-sensitive stuff which bugs the display on faster machines? Whilst not common, this issue does exist, also, weren't there some CGA games prone to display timing problems on VGA cards? <-Not sure on that as my knowledge of CGA is limited.

Might get myself an EISA VGA Card in the next few weeks/months as I expect the supply will dry up eventually and I would like to get hold of an EISA motherboard at some stage. Unfortunately, the world always finds a way of robbing me when I try to buy them - well, I get refunded, but it either gets lost in shipping or isn't even in stock to start with. I'm starting to think I'm just not meant to own one for some reason.

There's a job lot of similar workstations on eBay at the moment - did that model come with a Quadro or other? I used to procure XW4200s as AutoCAD workstations for an architects - they were kick-ass in 2005! 😀

It looks like a black paint for the front panel (if you want to install this device into a black case) will cost you more. 😀

What are these like to use with 5.25" disks? Do they go "thunk" like a 3.5" drive does when you insert a disk? I've always wondered, and thought that if they do, it might be a bit rough for the lifespan of a 5.25" disk.

Mine do. - Don't they all thunk?

I believe that's just the noise of the drive mechanism engaging (clamping) and centering the actual media.
It's bigger on a 5.25" so noisier.

May be in future, but now i decided to keep it in original but now cleaner condition and install it to my many-stuffed-in dual p3 server build 😀

Got some more stuff this week:

Yamaha SW20-PC OPL4: - this thing sounds great. It's a pain in the ass to get running, and so far It's been acting up of PCs with FSB 100 or grater (except for MVP3, it seems to run fine on this @ 100MHz fsb) but boy it sounds good.

Creative 3D Blaster Bansee CT6760 PCI

IWill VA133 Plus socket 370 VIA Apollo with one ISA slot and manual voltage selection by jumper - 1.3 to 2.1v - perfect for pin modded tualatin CPUs.

ABIT AB7 socket 462 nForce2 Ultra - one of the best socket A overclocking boards ever made

Leadtek A350XT FX5900 XT 128MB 128bit 400mhz core 700mhz vram - got this to replace my dead PNY FX5900XT. The leadtek is clocked 50mhz higher and it's a lot quieter.

Blue card: Gigabyte FX5700 128/128 475MHz core and 500MHz vram Red card: Soltek FX5200 128/128 250 core 500 vram - would you believe I haven't owned an FX5200 since 2005?
