I like the way it looks, nice purchase. 😀

I've yet to run a Vortex card, I should probably get one some day.

Somehow, it sounds like the samples are further compressed than on my MU80/90, though less so than the YMF724. It works though, seems a little warmer sounding. I've often been tempted to look for an MU10, but I don't really have a reason to buy one.

Haha, no it's one of those sliding trays you can use to swap HDD's. This one is a bit wonky though, if you don't put it in just right the machine will fail to boot. I took it out, quite useless if you just have the one tray for it...

I plan on building my 'ultimate' AT system in it, not quite sure what to go for. I want it to be a bit higher spec than the case (which I guess had a 486 in it originally?). I'm contemplating a (S)S7 system or Pentium II or III. Put in a nice old CD ROM, 5.25"and 3.5"FDD, 2 HDD's. 😀

I would say, that case fitts right in the 386 / 486 - 25/33/40 class period.

This arrived in the mail today. It took quite awhile (14 days) but it eventually made it. That vocalist on the boxart looks like Kes from Star Trek Voyager.

Now the fun begins. 😀

I own a MU80 and a MU15. While the MU80 is of higher quality and capability the MU15 is good enough.Beats the crap out of a Roland SC-7 if you besides gaming also want to listen to MIDI music.

Obviously rack gear usually intended for studio will sound amazing and MU90/100R sound great specially if one makes use of XG.

I knew it was you who got it...

How far did you get him down to if you don't mind me asking?

Would be good to see some benchmarks when you've time, and with a 386 CPU if you can. Thanks

All the best

Edit; - Are those sockets to accommodate a memory upgrade module?

A little bit - not much and the shipping was rather pricey too. I've been after this card for quite some time and it's in good shape, so I went against my "box items only" rule for this one and of course the Ad Lib Gold.

386_junkie wrote:

I will try to get some benchies for you - I only have one Packard Bell 386 and I'm not even sure if this card will fit in that case. I'll have to dig through and see if I have some CGL supported games in my library.

386_junkie wrote:

The card has a total of 2MB onboard and I believe there was a memory module available that allowed the card to support Direct3D. I have never seen this module though and I think it's really rare (kinda like the 'surround' module for the Ad Lib Gold...only a few lucky folks including some on VOGONS have that module).

Not retro, but it's been a long time coming. It is finally time to push on with retiring the old workstation, I can't keep beating the same dead horse forever unfortunately.

Click the image for SuperMicro's spec page for this board.

Edit: 919 posts? Great, now I feel like dragging out my PC Chips stuff so I can appreciate the new SuperO board even more when it gets here... Well, I guess the company that made my current system's board do own the PCChips brand (ECS) so there is that.

Hmm I'm a bit concerned that the Philips inverter chip is missing and the SPDIF line out is cut. Have you tested the IO board to see if it works?

Now I have monster sound. I've heard it makes other sounds too.

Looks like yours is also missing and has the SPDIF line cut.

Finally found one if these that actually works - Palit Daytona Geforce 2 PRO 64MB. Stock Sunon fan was pretty noisy so I replaced the whole heatsink / fan assembly, and one of the 1000uf caps was bloated so I replaced that one as well, but the card works fine.

Also got another one of these:

Thanks for notice. I have not tried it yet so im not sure what works or not. Both cards are in a pristine condition and looks like new. They also came sealed in anti static bags, but i suppose anyone can seal one if the want to.
If you look closer in my picture the Philips chip is missing, but the lanes go instead through the tiny chips RP7 & RP8. The SPDIF line looks intact this way and on cards that have the Philips chip, RP7 & RP8 are missing.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that. Even though it shows Rev. A I'm sure there was a sub revision listed on the card. I thought I had gathered an ID list of all Aureal cards, but I've managed to misplace that file...I recall it had quite a few MX300 revisions listed.

Huge package of very nice HW arrived, this is the first part. 😀

Starting at top left:
i286 12MHz, Am386DX-25, AXP 2100+ Palomino, Athlon 950, Cyrix 6x86MX PR200, 2x Duron 700
P4 3.0 Prescott, K6-2 400, Duron 1000, P166, P133, P100, P150
P200, K5 90, P150, P166, 2x P75

Yes, the 950MHz Thunderbird is indeed using OPGA package, not the usual ceramic PGA. My first four-star CPU. 🤣 http://www.x86-guide.com/en/cpu/AMD-Athlon/K7-4.html -> ctrl+f AMD Athlon 950 (OPGA)
