Sony Vaio PCG-FXA36. Has a Mobile Athlon 1GHz, 256MB RAM, 20GB hard drive, DVD-ROM/CD-RW, Floppy Drive and XP Home. Unknown if it works since the power adapter wasn't included, but I might have a compatible universal one somewhere assuming I can find the right connector for it.

This is basically a portable version of my first custom desktop build, the only differences being mine had a Duron 1GHz instead of Athlon, and it was running Win2K instead of XP.

Not so much bought as traded, this arrived from a Vogons members today, complete with the benchmarker's favourite socket 3 CPU and a bonus item of a Cyrix 5x86 100 (great packing, mate - arrived in one piece). A VIP board to replace my pretty much dead previous VLB board, which I'm still sad about.

To avoid accusations of casual sexism, I will say that I think it's time we gave HIM a nickname, as he's been around a bit now.

Haha, I love that demo, wish it were online in HQ somewhere. The way he starts out all mundane and then just escalates into keydrum god-mode. You can tell the guy absolutely loves what he does.

Also there are a bunch of brilliant remixes of it out there. 😁

And.. I got the 256 MB one last week, now, I will soon be the new owner of it's bigger brother.

I just won it and finished paying for it.. not in my paws yet, but soon.

The GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI-Express, 512MB Edition, BFG Overclocked edition.

Seller's photo:

There was some person that was bid-war'ing on the first 256 MB one last week, and they were in here fighting for this second one too today. I'm sure who ever it was is likely very PO'd I bid-sniped em twice.... hope it's not anyone here on vogons.

Welcome to the PCG-FX gang. :p I have the PCG-FX601, which is the exact same thing, just with a 1.1GHz Duron, DVD-ROM drive and a 14.1" screen. It has an ATI Rage Mobility M1 GPU, and most parts from the FX line should work with the FXA - as long as you remember that some FXs were PIII-based, and others were Duron/Athlon-based. You can take it up to 1GB of RAM, even though it only officially supports 512MB.

Not really retro, but too updated to be considered modern - Gainward GTX 480 twins - even used in the same machine!

Zotac GTX 480 AMP! BOXED! (yes, I know one of the gaiward cards is in the box - in fact I managed to fit all 3 cards in there at one point because I didn't bring enough anti static bags 😜

Would you belive I spent 50 euro on all 3 cards? I'm flat broke right now, but it was kind of worth it.

The system it's in is a MSI Z77A-G45 + i5 2500k.

Quick update: was able to turn on that Sony laptop I got today with a universal adapter, it started right up with no issues. According to the Event Log, it was last used in October 2006, quite a long time to sit untouched!

Picked up the remnants of a little IBM Aptiva tower today. ALI chipset, k6-2 350mhz, matx motherboard with 4mb Rage Pro built in and the ram is already maxed out to 256mb of pc100. The outer shell of the case was crushed and destroyed and the HDD/Cage was missing but whats left works great.

I picked up a similar Aptiva system last year IIRC. Worked pretty well for a couple days and then it inexplicably died, so I threw most of it back in the dump. The biggest surprise of that system was the fact that it had a K6-2 450MHz that was underclocked to I think either 350 or 300MHz.

Have not played with it much, but seems like a nice little setup. Sucks that yours died so soon, although not surprising. I swear SS7 motherboards drop like flies at the smallest provocation. I think since they were budget motherboards the build quality was never very good and I have noticed the PCB's usually are very thin.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Yep that is what I am gonna use it for.
Gonna play some old games I loved as a kid.

Also gonna build my LPT port based logic analyzer again and look for my 3,5¨ disk containing the software 😀

Might even try Digitrace (windows based) but I heard that doesn't work quite as good as the dos based software I used in the past.

The GTX 480 is my hottest card I won. What a beast. Two of them? Good luck 😊

I managed to test all 3 cards and they run fine. The gainward cards run pretty hot, topping out at 71C single and 85C in SLi. The Zotac on the other hand won't go over 68.

50€ = three GTX 480, seems like a great deal. For that price I could barely get single GTX 470 😠

Anyway, Asrock 775i65G R3.0... can't hurt to have a spare one. 😀
