I bought the parts for a simplified MCB-1 project a long time ago. The idea was to build only the MIDI OUT parts of MCB-1 so I could use MIDI modules through the MPU-401 part of LAPC-I. Unfortunately I just couldn't get it going and it's been collecting dust almost a year now. And since I finally found the real deal it seems even less likely I'll begin any time soon. 🤣

This one is made for IBM, and has the correct color scheme for my application (black bezel with blue-purple buttons). I will use it in a Thinkpad Dock II. It comes with a SCA80 adapter and a tray, presumably to be used in an IBM server. I saw this NIB Hercules card on eBay and threw in the minimum bid of $5. No one else bid, and I ended up winning. I don't read German, but as far as I can tell, this is a proprietary EGA-like card that needs to be specifically supported by applications. I don't have an EGA monitor or cable, so I can't test it right now. Still, a neat old NIB piece for the collection.

Got myself a Dell XPS D333 machine, as well as a few related extras

Originally the machine didn't work , as the 200w Dell PSU was dead. By chance I have a spare Dell 250w PSU (came out of a Dimension 4100 I think) , and the machine works well. I also replaced the RAM ( I suspect it was dying, as the RAM count wasn't giving me the correct amounts) so the machine now has 320mb of SDRAM (not sure where the other 128mb stick I had went), it was also missing a hard drive, but I have a 20GB WD drive that will work well.

The board inside is basically a Dell branded Intel AL440LX motherboard, the CPU is a 300mhz Klamath PII, for graphics it has an 8mb ATI Rage PRO AGP card. There was also a 56k modem card, which I removed and replaced with an Aureal Vortex 2 for now.

along with the computer there was also a PII 450Mhz (same heatsink , though obviously this board is stuck at 66mhz FSB), as well as a Dell rubber dome keyboard , and Logitech mouse

I may or may not decide to use the case for my Tualatin build, as the PC60 case its sitting in is very noisy)

Picked up a whole lot of crap and just dumped it in the garage for now. Seriously, it was all in rough shape, dirty, beatup, dusty. Not clean stuff like some of you guys are finding.

I needed a bunch of NICs and modems, and ended up getting this whole lot for $40 - beginning to think I overpaid.

several athlon machines in some form of disrepair every box was a surprise - i don't think any box contained what the box indicated

mostly ATX, one of these should be an AT mini tower, which i've been looking for.

also got one of these. i haven't seen one before, but i've heard theyre pretty common. My first XG product..

The full tower ATX case is really nice, and the YMF-724 card is something special, as the Yamaha PCI cards are one of only two ways to get a fully digital recording of true OPL3 (although using the new sampling rate). Is the case behind the monitor the AT one?

Another way is to go with one of those AWE32 with OPL3's output routed via EMU8000 straight to the S/PDIF out.

yeah thats the AT one.

the full tower ATX case has wheels, maybe I can clean it up. Ive been wanting to do a sleeper old school build and stuff an x99 8 core in there or something.

Jokes aside, what's the model of that compaq in the middle of the first image? It looks alot like the early p4 with an OEM SB-24bit i had when i was younger.

P.S. If any of that boxed stuff is office, reference, or general multimedia software please do archive.org it. I feel like regular software preservation is sadly overlooked compared to conserving games.

it's a presario 6000. P4, will crack it open this weekend and see whats inside.

There really isn't any software. all the software boxes (except the games) are stuffed full of cables and pci cards.

The modems come with QuickLink, but I'm not absolutely sure no one has archived that before.

It did come with a mostly unused pack of minidiscs. it's a shame i sold my minidisc recorder years ago.
