I bought an e8600 and 4gb of ddr2 800 for my mom's Dell. Should be a nice upgrade over her E6300 and 2gb ddr2 667. Next up is to swap out the geforce 8300. Talk about a SLOW card.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

what does you mom do that needs something more then a 8300? Don't forget that a HDD upgrade will make things a lot faster too.

Speaking as someone who owned a 8300GS back when it was new - I would expect it to start struggling with any kind of high-quality video, let alone even the most basic of games.

1080p Youtube is terrible and 720p is tolerable as-is. Plus it would be handy to have another decent LAN machine handy. Depending on which friend upgrades first it will end up with a 550gtx or hd7750

Picked up some seemingly brand-new dot matrix printer ribbons for a Tandy DMP-133 on Amazon. I find it hard to believe someone would still manufacture these, but they seem perfectly new and nice and ink-y.

I'm trying to cut back my collection ATM but have managed to pick up this stuff over the last few months, all new old stock:

S3 based VLB VGA:

A couple of Audiodrives - the compaq card was a much appreciated gift from Boxpressed, as seen in his excellent wavetable thread.

Links!

MS Works 3.0! It's taken me a surprisingly long time to find a boxed copy at a decent price - it was the last piece I needed for my shelf-of-nostalgia:

Wonder if I'll ever grab a late voodoo rush.

Have you considered hunting for a Intergraph intense 3d voodoo?

Some lovely purchases there mate! I have a minor fetish for that textured cardboard boxing used for the VLB, so prevalent in the early 90s era but hard to find now!

Was Works 3 part of your original computer setup? And where's that PAS16 box?! Or does it have its own shelf? 😉

Yes there's something a bit magical about that 90s box art - the hardware itself was always so expensive, but the packaging so cheap and nasty!

Yes we had MS works at home - nothing special about it otherwise. I remember my sister spending a couple of hours typing up a university assignment and calling me in when the dot matrix printer wouldn't work. The first thing to do of course was turn the computer off and then on again, but she hadn't saved the doco and there was no autosave! Guess who had to re-type it all 😵

The PAS16 box has pride of place directly above that stuff!

My local second hand store had a motherload of semi-old computer stuff today.

The golden nuggets (at least for me) were:

- Sound Blaster AWE32 CT2760
- ASUS CUSL2 Socket 370 motherboard
- STB Velocity 4400 AGP

The mildly interesting:

- 2x Matrox Millenium G200
- ATi Rage 128 Pro
- Diamond Viper II Z200 (S3 Savage 2000)
- ASUS V3000 (Riva 128)
- Diamond Stealth 64 (S3 Trio64)
- 2x Diamond Sonic Impact (AU8820)
- Turtle Beach TB400 (AU8820)
- 2x SB Live! CT4830 (different revisions)
- SB Audigy2
- SB X-Fi
- Pentium III 700MHz Slot 1 with cooling
- Adaptec PCI SCSI-card
- 3com ISA network card

Mostly junk (tell me if I'm wrong):

- ATi 3D Rage Pro Turbo
- 2x ATi 3D Rage LT Pro
- Nvidia Vanta LT

Evrything was €1-€3 and I paid about €40 in total for everything, which was not bad. The AWE32 itself is worth that.
Gonna return some of the doubles, probably. Also will be returning some of the more useless ATi cards.

Glad to help out a fellow ESS fan!

I got this in the mail yesterday. I wasn't aware of a Goldfinch variant with line out and SPDIF jacks already installed. A versatile little card now.
