Nice catch on the 5 dollar SS7 motherboard and CPU.

Picked these up myself today. Couple other auctions I am waiting on that might be exciting as well if they don't get bid up to high.

Two Socket 3 motherboards 1 PCI and 1 VLB. Both untested but I got it for 40 shipped so even if just one works it's a decent deal.

Got this one for 50 plus 14USD shipping. A P4 motherboard with unversal AGP slot. A Geforce 4 Ti4200 and a DXR2 decoder card. Mainly got this for the the motherboard to use with a Voodoo 5 but, the GF4Ti is a nice bonus. The DXR2 card is kinda nice to have as I don't have one currently but not sure what I would use it for. I don't generally bother with DVD playback on older machines.

Thanks 😀 It's from the same place I've been getting most of my stuff lately, they've even taken to putting aside boxes of things they think I might like to look through - this was in the box today, along with a couple laptops that needed too much work for me to bother, some pcmcia ethernet cards I was considering but ended up passing on, and an Audigy 2 I was going to grab until I noticed it was an "SB" model number, so probably a Dell OEM one.

That is one nice board. One of the better ones that I have had through the years.
I had mine running with both K6-II's, P-133 and P-166. Great board.
As far as I remember, it should have SB-Link header somewere on it.

I'm actually looking to buy the same one. Does anyone know if it will work with Voodoo 3/AGP? Also, does it have a standard PS/2 pinout? It's just that a lot of AT SS7 motherboards that I've seen either have a custom pinout or use ATX form cards of some sort.

Not sure yet - it came with a single-port PS/2 bracket connected via a 5-pin connector. Not sure if that's standard or not.

it works with the voodoo 3 2000 at the very least, depending on the AGP slot it might also support the 3000 check the manual for the bus speed on the agp slot.

Bought a NIB 2 port usb 2.0 pci card at Goodwill from Iogear. Opened it up and peeled the brand sticker of the chipset, expecting a crappy Via card that would not play nice with older systems. Instead found an ALI chipset! I know this has good 98 drivers included, but if I could get it to work with 95 that would make it a great candidate for one of my Socket 7 AT machines.

I would recommend NOT using USB 2.0 in windows 9x. I've never heard any success stories. Hell, even usb 1.1 is going to be flaky with win95.

As long as you use 98se USB seems usable, vanilla 98 and 95 are a big pain however. What I ran into before was compatibility between the USB chipset and the motherboard chipset. Via chipset usb cards seem much more flakey than say an NEC one on older systems.

Used vanilla WIn98SE with USB 2.0 on multiple computers with zero issues what so ever. The only possible problem is getting the correct drivers. If you can get those then it should just work right off. Although I do also add the "Unofficial Win98SE Service Pack 3" to add mass storage support to Win98se's USB functionality so I can use modern newer flash drives.. and the same sp3 pack adds ntfs support to Win98se. Once adding in those two I can pop in my ntfs 32GB and 64GB flash drives into my win98 systems and it reads them straight off with no issues, full hotplug support too.

Just received this, which ended up costing me way more than expected because it was a lot larger and heavier than expected (and got intercepted by customs):

It's a NEC Packard Bell machine with a Pentium 166 MHz on board, 32 Mb RAM, working CD-ROM (a pretty neat one too) and floppy drive, LAN card, on-board sound, no hard disk though...(wonder if I could revive the 1Gb SCSI drive I've kept in storage for 20 years...). I'll start a thread in the system specs forum.

Yesterday I recieved them two computers, the K6 and the 486. I took the K6-II apart, cleaned the AT-Case (wich are scuffed up, and need a repaint) and took some pictures of what was inside the machine. It was smelling of cooking oil and perfume, so I guess the previous owner lived in a small apartment or something like that. The motherboard has a K6-II-350 and some unknown amount of ram.

Anyway... Pictures...

I took a couple of quick pictures of the Unisys machine too. It is a 486sx25, upgraded to a 486dx33.
It has S3-805 onboard VGA card, and some unidentified SCSI 50-Pin Harddrive.
I did not take that close a look at this machine though, as I have no time for hardware testing, untill
thursday or friday next week. So yeah... Will have to wait one week, for massive testing.
The machine has some scuff marks, nothing really bad, and that is to be expected for a 24 year old PC.

Did you end up getting those Socket 3 boards? If so, the PCI+VLB board (the one on the right in the first picture) seems to be the (in)famous PCChips M919, and it has the custom COAST-like cache module! 😲

Even if the boards are not working, that cache module is very rare, and probably very expensive.

Found this baby hiding in the CPU section of ebay. Cheaper than the one I was watching and in near mint condition. Popped the service tag into dell support and checked the original build. Supposedly it shipped with a P4 EE 3.4/800. It's a bit off from what the seller described, but I really don't see a reason why anybody would downgrade a CPU.

Being paranoid here, but I wouldn't doubt that the damage was from overzealous customs agents checking inside.

The parcel was not opened by customs. However, despite five layers of bubblewrap, the front and rear side of the case were basically directly against the cardboard of the box, so one bad bump...

On the other hand, I also discovered the power supply was being held to the rest of the case with only three screws because a special bracket part is missing - seems the power supply was replaced at one point and it wasn't mounted back the correct way. So I'm lucky the screws held, otherwise the motherboard would likely have been toast.
