A system with 2 6990s and a qx9650 with tons of overclocking. 8 10k rpm hdds daul d5 pumps and so on.
The 6990 can pull 400-450w apice.

You could probably get by with 1.2kv but on a system like that the overhead might be nice. Now dual 5990s would be another story....
Edit: NVM, I thought I read somewhere the 6xxx generation had no dual GPU chip and that if x990 card was single when in fact it's dual.

With overclocking thats about 800-900w from the 6990s alone. The qx9650 is a 130w stock. Get it up to 4.4ghz-4.6ghz and it could be pulling upwards of 200w. 1200w will not do one bit.
Picked up a couple retro things from the recyclers today: an AGP GeForce 5200 (5$, great for the retro LAN machines) and an Audigy 2 ZS with the 5.25" Front Bay unit (10$, all the cables present.) Really psyched to try out the Audigy 2 ZS - not sure if it'll end up in the XP build or if I'll actually use it in my early DX10 machine.
Also picked up some less interesting more modern things, mostly to throw together a cheap HTPC for the bedroom, along with a spare MicroATX case. All told, spent 30$. Basically 5$ per card, and 10 for the case with parts inside.

Damn yeah actually IMO you might go up to 2kV just for the overhead. I think BFG made some period correct units.

My money is on bad caps.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I split my bet into bad caps or psu not strong enough on +5v rail.

Ill have to change a breaker and receptacle. 2kw would blow my 16amp setup. The wireing can handle it witch would make it simple to implement a 20amp circuit. But 1600w will do, a strong 1500w might even do. Depends on what fans and other small parts I use.
Also its 2kw not 2kv. kv would be kilo volt.

It actually looks like it sat with the cooler on it for so long, when I put a little stress on it to remove the cooler the die of the CPU cracked.
I still can't get it to POST even with other official CPUs. Probably bad caps but I'm not sure, I made the classic mistake of slipping and having the screwdriver stab the board. I inspected really hard and nothing seemingly got damaged though.

I have that case but it is in black with red accents. The Thermaltake logo lights up.
Mine came with no power supply but oddly enough I found one for that unit while hunting something else (made for 5v heavy systems). I don't use the fan controller, it has been removed.

Man, that is one sick case. I need a new one for my 6-core gaming rig, or for my Athlon 64 system since there's absolutely no wiggle room to install a CD Drive (the case is too small in length).

Someone offered to sell me an Xaser III with an P4 board and PSU of some sort in it but it wasn't worth shipping IMO. If anyone's interested let me know and I'll email the guy and let him know I might have a buyer for it.

I never bothered to get a price as I knew it would be too much to ship. The guy also had 2 Windows 95 dells supposedly that I knew would be too much to ship. The guy didn't know shit about computers either which worries me. I halfway think they were stolen or something because of that. He ended up selling a ton of parts on eBay in lots for $75
EDIT: Fuck. Sorry guys I just checked and apparently I lost the guys eMail. Which means that information is several hundred pages back in my Reddit history. So until reddit adds an option to search messages this is a no go.
