Ah interesting. I didn't know about the keyboards. That explains a post I found on a board from 2001 where someone explains how to make an adapter for the "wyse 4-pin connector" so you can use it as a regular AT keyboard. It's a simple cable adapter because the keyboards are in fact AT just with a weird connector. I see a trend here. 😀

Be careful with that, some of them could be, but others are quite different - there's a lot of variability in the keyboards:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51079.0

It is possible to convert to USB (or assumedly to AT), but it requires a microcontroller in between:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=52597.0

I'm still looking for connector/jumper configuration info for the motherboard with little success.

Can't wait to get this motherboard and play with it. For some reason 286 systems fascinate me. They're such weird beasts all of them.

Getting documentation on Wyse systems is a pain, getting anything even resembling information on most 286 even more so - so where those two meet, get ready to have to be very creative 😉

Yeah I found a few threads on geekhack about it. I plan to use a standard AT keyboard for now though since I have that option. I saw a few Wyse keyboards on ebay but they're priced at more than what I paid for the mobo+PS. 🙁

I created a thread on vcfed about it, maybe someone there has some info. I guess vcfed and vogons are the two places on the net where I have any chance of getting help about it. And maybe the reddit member I mentioned in the post above. 😀

Aw, man, that's not good. United States are not what they used to be. Hang in there.

Recommended lecture to non-US folks who still believe in American Dream: "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America" by Barbara Ehrenreich.

The USA as a whole is on a pretty good economic upturn now that we don't have a president that wants to "fundamentally transform the United States" a.k.a. make it into a socialist welfare country.

Michigan.. probably not so much. Decades of democratic socialist control led to the economy pretty much tanking in parts of Michigan.

A large number of people were willingly hoodwinked in 2008 and 2012 into voting for "hope and change" and to be "a part of history" by voting for Barack Obama.

Looking back, if Barack was not elected, I kinda wonder if we would have somebody even worse than him this go around. If McCain had gotten in in 2008, I can almost assure that it would have been a disaster in 2012. If Romney had gotten in in 2012 I am not sure what would have happened. Guessing The Clinton crime family would be in power.

So maybe the trying to tank the USA even more by Barak is what finally woke up enough people to help them see what was going on by the scum in both political parties.

I feel it necessary to point out the opinions expressed by Cyclone3d do not necessarily represent all Americans.

That is all I will say about it here.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Just going by actual facts. Not the filth/lies/made up stories that are spread by CNN, MSN, CNBC, social media, etc.

And yeah, I know not all Americans feel the same way. But I do expect people to do actual research into the people they are going to vote for instead of just going by what they hear by "news outlets" and group think.

Maybe my expectations are too high.

I will say this though. McCain would have been an absolute disaster for the Republican party if he had gotten elected. I did vote for him over Obama, but that was only because I had no other choice.
He was as wishy-washy and turn-coaty as they come which became even more apparent after the 2008 election.

Skipping the political discussion;

I may have a lead on some manuals and disk images for the WysePC 286. If I'm able to obtain them I'll post them, probably in a separate thread.

Nor do I agree with his opinion, but let's not fuel this discussion any further.

I apologise for opening this particular can of worms. My intention was compassionate pat on the back to bjwil1991, not starting a political debate.

So let's get back to hardware then.

Today I closed a deal on a Voodoo3 3000 PCI, and on some other stuff I will show off and gloat over when I get it. Picking up the Voodoo tomorrow, the other stuff should be ready on Tuesday.

I've been searching over a year for a boxed Asus K8V SE Deluxe to show up on ebay since I want to get the same parts I used in my first build in high school.
Never saw one so caved and bought this just for the box (board was listed for parts and I couldn't get it to post)

Of course a few days after receiving that board this shows up on ebay. I'm wondering if buying the regular K8V magically made this happen, or if the collecting gods needed another sacrifice from my wallet...

Seems to be a dual-Socket 5/7 EISA AT board. Looks really interesting.

Dont know about the cards, seems to be some network/graphics combo.

Seems to be Dual-Socket 7 time 😀 Didnt know they even exist not long ago, now ordered the 2nd: Gigabyte GA-586DX
Also from a scrap lot, dont know if working.

I dont think you need many docs/drivers for this board. Most should be straightforward.

It looks pretty much complete to me, no missing parts.

Nice board! It has two tag RAMs so can cache the full 512MB. Let's hope it works 😀

One thing that I do need is the BIOS setup disk. In that era that wasn't built into the onboard ROM but came as a program on a disk. I don't know what BIOS this board has so the generic gsetup.exe may or may not work. That's why I want the specific setup program. Otherwise the board may not recognize/use any hardware I add.

I think this board is totally standard, like #1 and #18 here:
80286 BIOS image collection

You only have to enter the values for Floppy/HDD into the CMOS, this can be done with any utility if not possible within the BIOS.

Also no other special features here wich would require a Setup Disk.

Possible, but I won't know for sure until I actually get my hands on it. Memory seems to be different, and I think that may also have to be entered in setup especially since I plan on adding more with ISA card(s).

Need some memory for it too. 64meg is a bit more than I had originally, but that is half the fun of these computers, speccing them out nicely.
