Is there a major difference between the Model 1, 2, and 3 for games, such as sound? There is a video comparison between Model 1, 2, 3, and CDX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjCOlnGpi1g

Also, for the Model 1 cart slot issue, would replacing the slot itself suffice?

Supposedly the model 1 "high definition graphics" version has the best sound. The one you have is the most desirable. Just use the cart slot until it wears out, if it does. Some of the later model 1s had a better quality slot. Honestly wouldn't mess with it if it's working fine. I would clean the slot pins though. Credit card or similar plastic card wrapped in a rubbing alcohol soaked thin cloth is how I did it. Just insert that a couple of times and wait a few minutes for the alcohol to dissipate.

A neat thing with the Genesis is that it supports RGB out without any modding for crystal clear video. Only downside is this can lead to a rabbit hole of buying converter boxes and/or upscalers. A company called HD Retrovision offers a Genesis to component out cable as well. https://www.hdretrovision.com/genesis

I'm trying to fix my model 1. The chips I ordered from China showed up today, so hopefully they'll address my sound cutting out after a period of time. I had already swapped out the one of the other chips after reading a thread of a similar problem, but it didn't help. I also have a model 2 that's broken. I swapped out its cartridge slot so far, and no luck. I'm new to this stuff, so I'm just shooting in the dark as I get practice soldering.

I discovered this Retrovision cable recently and love it - I'm using a Retrotink to HDMI->VGA converter to a VGA CRT and wow, the image is spectacular. But yes, it was quite the rabbit hole and I'm still going down it - I have a scanline generator on the way 🤣

No cutting corners here: you need at least a Banshee agp and a 3500tv agp to make it more ''complete''. Ofcourse you can go further and search for the v3 1000 agp, the Velocity models and ofcourse the Quantum3d cards.

Beeing ''unoptaniums'' I skip the voodoo5 6k and Rampage for you....

So...grab your coat and get out there again! 🤣

Bought this card because it was on sale for $1.50 and looked interesting. The only cards with this kind of dual feature connectors that I know of are the Banshee and i740. My bet is on Banshee. Does anyone know what this card really is?

2 FPS is an overly optimistic estimate, I believe 😀

Depends on the CPU used.

Hard to say what card exactly, but I'm 90% sure it is not Banshee. Banshee is using different memory layout and most of the time PCB is not ready for TV-OUT.

Well.. There are Banshees with this layout(with 4 chips on th eback) so I thought it may be something similar:

Any other ideas? It's a fun guessing game. Googling the FCC-ID leads me to a Cardex card in some OEM PC but I can't find much more on it.. Searching FCC results in a few Gainward cards..

This made me curious. The ID (ICUVGA-GW7**) number says it should be a Gainward card, but it isn't fully visible.
What I find with similar IDs are:
703 - Voodoo 1
707 - Voodoo Rush
710 - S3 Virge
But this is neither of these.
The Banshee is similar looking (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/l6UAAOSwGNxbHDSP/s-l1600.jpg), but it's GW816DP.

Maybe Permedia? http://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/cpu/item/ … abs-permedia-2v
The Gainward one looks similar, but it isn't this exact card.

I'm 100% sure that it's not a Banshee.
I'm also 95% sure that's a S3 Virge.
It could also be S3 Savage4.
There's a low chance that it could be Riva128 or i740.

That chip really looks like an Intel 740. With the gold-colored thing in the lower left corner.

Not a Banshee? Oh well.. Permedia 2, 128ZX and Savage4 (aside from the LT version) are all lacking in my collection so I don't mind either way.. I hope it's not an i740 though, I already have one.
