Anyone else ever have those times where you are completely oblivious of the existence of something, then having all consuming desire of it within seconds?

I think I resisted for 24hrs, but yes. On the opposite end of spectrum I hate it when I see something on eBay that looks amazing, and I start planning a whole build around it and then lose the auction.

Check out DOSBox Distro:

a lightweight Linux distro (tinycore) which boots off a usb flash drive and goes straight to DOSBox.

Congrats.... That is a clean looking old lady. What are the plans with it? Any upgrades that you are planning on?

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

I will likely just do a memory expansion and Gotek. If I come across an accelerator card for cheap, I'll do that along with a Workbench upgrade.

These nicer SS7-Chips have become rather scarce.

Mystery sound card, but probably called "MediaForte SoundForte 16 MCD".
Bit of a surprise as it is from August 94 (fcc id) and yet has fill jumper non-pnp outfit. IDE still lacking.

Sweet! I didn't know this book existed. I had a similar volume by Texas Instruments called The Great International Math On Keys Book, to go with my TI-30. This one is from 1977. These are among the first general-public 'computer books', and they were the first computer book for a lot of us.

You could say there were no games on the TI-30, but there was entertainment: you could write a few words upside down, like 07734. We knew how to have fun in the seventies.

Nice. May I recommend a scandoubler as well.

I need to dig out my Amiga, I got an RGB to VGA adapter and want to test it with my monitors.

I'm going to test my multisync CRT's first, so hopefully I don't need it. I have a Samsung that supports 15kHz. I also ordered a S-video board as a backup.

Ok, I dug it out. Here it is, doesn't look too bad though some of the keys have started to yellow a bit:

download/file.php?mode=view&id=77503

I think I'm going to have to start a new thread for Amigas since I haven't used mine since I was in High School about 28 years ago. What's the best way to write ADF files to floppies? What kind of modern hardware additions would you recommend. I know about the vampire, I'm on the waiting list for the 1200 version but that may be a while.

The good news is that the acer G276HL Gbmid monitor that I got does indeed support 15khz so it works with just a RGB to VGA adapter, though the interlace modes flicker like hell. This thing still smells like my room from when I was in high school, what a blast turning it back on.

I need to dig out my Amiga, I got an RGB to VGA adapter and want to test it with my monitors.

I tried different converters, though because I am using PAL machines, then I find that they are all lagging horrible. Sometimes then make a kind of ghosting, when stuff is moving around too quickly. In workbench, they usually deliver a good picture. It is gaming that poses issues.

That is why I went for a scandoubler instead. They are usually a bit expensive. On the other hand, they are the absolute best solution for the price. They are usually around 99 euro for a new one. There are two different ones for Amiga500 and 2000 that can be bought. And one of them can be used in an Amiga600 if you get a memory module.

The first one is the ScanPlusECS that can only be used in the 500 and the 2000. It can only do 50hz refresh. That is PAL native. So if your monitor can do 50hz, then that is the best. Spot on colors and butter smooth scrolling.

The other is the IndivisionECS-V2, that can be set to 50hz. Standard settings are between 60 or 65 or something refresh rate. So it can be used for nearly all monitors. Yet smooth scrolling can only be achieved with 50hz. I have made a config file for it, that once loaded and saved in the IndivisionECS-V2, it comes as close to smooth as possible, and with full screen, border to border. Only slight non-smooth scrolling.

Both cost around 99 euro. Both have pros and cons.

If you want a better solution, then you will have to go for eighter a CRT tv with SCART input, that supports RGB on the SCART input. Or you need to buy an expensive frame meister.

Nice... Amiga1200. Did not know you were talking about that. Get it recapped, and then save up for an Vampire for the 1200. The Vampire line of accelerators are a true masterpiece. You have the native monitor setup. No need for scandoublers. And the Vampire have HDMi output for stunning high res workbench. And it makes the machine one of the fastest machines.

Check out the video that Dan Wood made about his Amiga600 edition....

Better save for a Blizzard 1260, a Warp 1260, or an ACA1260. The Vampire might be a masterpeice to some, but it's an FPGA clone of a large part of the Amiga hardware and still has many quirks and drawbacks. What you have in the end is no longer a real Amiga. If at all, wait for the stand-alone Vampire V4.

TSENG ET4000 W32i 2MB - for a Win95/DOS build. I expect to be running this paired with Voodoo 1 card for 3D support.

Huh??? It is still a real Amiga. Sam460 and AmigaOS 4.1 are just as much a real Amiga as an Amiga 1200 with a Vampire.
