Nice!! However, it's giving a keyboard error. I hope that the acid hasn't affected its traces.

Yes, it wasn't attached - I've tried the fast way, with only power plug connected 😉

This weekend I swapped my three 6' tables for four 24" x 48" x 72" shelving units. Now that my baby daughter arrived last Fall, half of the space is filled with baby toys so I need to start building "up" instead of "out." :p

Uuuhh... new shelves and full already? Where do you go once 'up' is no longer possible? 😉

And is that a Voodoo5 lunch box??

More AGP graphics gear. Finally I have a 6800GT! I will use this card moving forward with my Intel vs AMD series 😀

I have the exact same card - unfortunately - artifacts 🙁 The fan control switch is kick-ass too.

For your AMD vs Intel tests I recommend you use an AGP X1900/X1950 it will remove any possibility of a GPU bottleneck.

P.S. - regarding your AMD vs Intel series - in my humble opinion you chose a very poor chipset / motherboard for the AMD rig. In fact, crappy motherboards are the main reason AMD machines had performance and / or stability issues back in the day. If you find the time, try re-running the tests with a GOOD motherboard, like and Abit AN7 (nforce2) or an Asus A7V880-Deluxe (VIA KT880) - the performance difference might surprise you.

I previously built two similar setups (3200+ / Abit AN7 --- P4 3.2HT Prescott 1MB / GA-8IPE1000-G) so I could determine witch one is better suited for the spot of late win98 early XP retro rig - so I ran some synthetic and game benchmarks. In my tests both machines performed on par, with negligible performance differeces - so small the margins would change by simply re-running the benchmark. That plus the fact that I can reliably run the Athlon off a old FSP 350W PSU (came from a server and weighs a ton) as opposed to the 500W Antec PSU needed to keep the 478 build stable, and the fact that the Athlon is paradoxically cooler* and quieter*, made me keep the Athlon XP machine in use.

*the 3200+ build seems to require a little less power, as it's perfectly stable with the aforementioned 350W psu, while the P4 wants a bit more juice under load to be fully stable. The P4 also gets pretty hot with stock cooling (got up to 65C in prime!), and the only good aftermarket cooler that will fit my 478 boards is my Tuniq tower 120, witch I need for my LGA775 builds - while the Athlon stays withing 50-52 celsius using a basic Titan socket A copper cooler + quiet 800 rpm fan. At one point I'll buy another LGA775 tower cooler to use with my Q6600 rig and I might get my P4 build up and running again. That and an ABIT IS7 board.

Nice, didn't see the fan control 😀

I'm going to keep my eyes out for another one, for backup.

Very nifty feature - if my X1950PRO AGP card had one of those I would have used it in a build.

Yeah these things love to go belly up. The only reliable 6800 agp cards I own are both made by leadtek - a A400 LE and A400 GT. My MSI and ASUS 6800 AGP cards are toast.

I basically pushed everything forward on the shelves that I wanted to display. Still plenty of room behind those boxes since the shelves are 24" deep. They were NOT fun getting in the house, then in the basement, then putting together. Each box was 90 lbs each... I was a sweaty mess.

Hahah! Yep - it's a lunchbox! I have a bunch of 3dfx 'schwag' that isn't shown (3DFX Yo Yo, 3DFX watch, 3DFX Playing Cards, 3DFX Business Card, 3DFX Mouse Pads, 3DFX Antenna Ball, 3DFX Baseball Cap, 3DFX Keychain, 3DFX Fridge Magnet). I have a soft spot for 3DFX (shocking eh?)..😀

Yep, a have several cams doing live streaming/alerting. I've caught my dog sniffing around those shelves already. It's cool cause the cams have two-way audio to so I can yell at him! Please don't steal my stash! 😜

Haha. That's my boy - he's a gentle giant. A 95 lb, 6+ year old 'puppy' who isn't much of a guard dog.

I got my hands on two old systems, one being an IBM 300 notebook (model 2615) and the other a Toshiba portable the T3200. 😲
Both are complete but the IBM 300 has a bad harddrive (it makes a well known knocking sound). I will open it in a dust-arm environment and try if moving the harddrive arms carefully brings it back alive. Otherwise I have to check for a replacement.

The T3200 powered up okay but gives errors that the bios battery is toast which somehow doesn't sound that odd 🤣
Its the basic model with only 1mb of ram and no add in cards, but still happy since I paid €6 for both and some extra's.
The T3200 still has the manual with it and the screen works flawless which made my whole day a good one.

If I get the change I will shoot some pictures this weekend. 😀

Judging from the box it should be a CT3980, so yes it should have an OPL3 core integrated into the CT1747 chip.

Fortex, the A3D & XG/OPL3 accelerator (Vortex 2 + YMF744 combo sound card)
AWE64 Legacy

What is really strange is that there is another label on the box that for some reason says SB3990, but at the same time Creative is known for such strange labeling.

Just found this by my door as well.

FINALLY got my hands on BIG RED! "'Look sharp, all of ye! There are video cards here-abouts! If ye see a big red one, split your lungs for him!'"

A working Radeon 2900XT is a rare thing 'round these parts since not many people bought them, opting for the slower (and slightly cooler) 8800GTS 320MB or the 8800GT. Scoring a working card is even harder since these babies run hot. The 8800GTX is also hard to find since most of them are dead now - and just like with the 2900, people preferred to buy the cheaper GT or GTS. Working 8800GTX cards are still actively being used today, and the owners are asking silly prices for them

The reason I really wanted this card is not because it's hard to find, but because I had a couple of them back in the day and they performed really well. If I remember correctly, two HD 2900XT cards cost as much as a 8800 Ultra, and one single 2900XT was a little slower then the GTX (I also had a BbN 8800GTX witch I got from a friend who worked for a major IT magazine) and two of them were amazing in games witch supported crossfire. In fact the card performed so well I sold my 8800GTX, bought a second 2900XT and had a little leftover scratch for a much needed Antec Quadro 850w.

Unlike the other two dead ones I have (one completely dead, the other artifacts in 3D) this card is fully functional. Temp-wise it stays withing the 70C under load, it was clean and had fresh paste when I got it.

Nice!

I bought these two for ~10 euro each today! I have to admit that they are not my first pair of Geforce 7950GX2 cards but they were going for such a low price that I coudnt resist.

The sellers picture. The cards were sold as tested and working.
