An IBM ThinkPad 390. It has a 266 MHz Pentium II, and a NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV GPU... but despite its size, it seems to run warmer than the much slimmer ThinkPad 600, which has the same CPU.

A 4MB RAM card (well, the box for it) for my T4600, apparently new-in-box, and a Lexmark 4865 floppy drive. The RAM card came with everything - the box, the instruction guide, the protective plastic covers and even the warranty card, so it probably was NIB (just opened). I was hoping the floppy drive would be a parallel port, but it's not. I can't really find anything on it on the web - does anyone have any information on it?

I also got a 32MB stick of laptop EDO RAM, but that's already in my ThinkPad 560X.

I sold 3 of my 4 3dfx Voodoo 3's, then decided I needed a spare, luckily just found this one for a VERY good price. Less than half what I sold was other for a few months back, nice to know a few bargains still around.
Best,
Chris

Just bought a couple of upgrade/overdrive CPUs. I submitted offers that I thought were lowballing but low and behold they accepted them. Got all three for a combined 50 bucks shipped.

Nicely done. I remember when I was shopping for my Pentium Overdrive 200MMX, there was only ONE available on ebay for months, going for around $50. I stayed patient and made some ebay search notifications and eventually found one for bid. Got lucky and won the bid for around $20 shipped, and now it powers my primary DOS rig.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

I quite like the idea of that:
"Hmm, this is an interesting soldering iron tip, let's try it out..."
- BANG!

At first I thought they were rivets, but no. Then I thought they were plasterboard screw plugs, but no. The metal looks too rough to be ammunition so... no idea.

They look like tips for a spot-welding machine. One of those industrial machines that are heavy duty.

It's been a while since i took a chance on a box of random crap on ebay but this lot got my attention because of the Super Socket 7 boards, the K6-2 and the sound card with the XG logo on it (i don't possess one of these).

However, although i didn't expect good packaging, it was actually a complete fiasco. First, these are the items included:

FIC PA-2130 (SS7 with MVP4).
MSI MS6156 (Slot 1 with VIA chipset)
Chaintech 5AGM3 (SS7 MVP with AT layout)
Intel D102GGC2 (775 with ATI Radeon Xpress 200)
Chaintech 7AIA5 (Socket A with VIA VT8363A)
Asus A7NBX (Socket A with nForce 2)
Soltek SL-75KAV (Socket A with VIA chipset)

Slot 1 PIII 850MHz (Coppermine)
K6-2 500MHz
Athlon XP-M 1400+ (Thoroughbred)
Duron 800 (Spitfire)
Celeron D 3.2GHz (SL96P 512/533)

Unknown MX440 (bulging/missing caps)
Sparkle S3 Savage 4 Pro 16MB
WinFast A170 MX440 SE (bulging caps)
ATi Rage XL (trashed)
MSI MX440 (trashed)
Labway A411-G70 (Yamaha X-wave Q3000A)
Obligatory PCI modems
Some crappy heatsinks

I really wish the seller hadn't bothered to include the heatsinks. They are probably responsible for some of the damage. Saying that, i can't actually tell what state they were in to begin with!

The items were arranged into 4 layers. No ESD protection of course - just a thin layer of bubble wrap between.

The K6-2 was rattling about which is even more ridiculous considering there are TWO SS7 BOARDS this could have been plugged into. Maybe the pins were already bent which would make more sense. Hopefully they'll survive the straightening process.

The older boards were in generally bad shape which always surprises me more than it should. I have socket 3 boards in mint condition. I'm happy with the slot 1 Coppermine though.

You would also think these were sold as spares or repairs? Nope!

I think i might be taking advantage of buyer protection on this one...

I once bought 2 486DX2-66 which looked like that but managed to straighten the pins and they still worked, although it did take some 15 minutes to fix each CPU. Good luck!

Also, it looks like you got a box full of trash 😢

Just got back from picking this up locally. Its a Cooler Master 201 ATCS case. Planning to do a build in it. Was £20 with Optiarc DVD writer, Akasa Fan controller, Card reader and Evo Case labs 750watt PSU. The PSU i will sell on as they are not the best.

These cases are so well built and high quality. Really please to have picked it up.

I totally love this case, simple but elegant and you can see it's well build, and with all the extras... I'm jealous 🤣 .

brassicGamer, that damage makes me angry and it's not even my stuff! I hate when good hardware is destroyed by morons who can't be bothered to spend a couple of quid on some bubble wrap and some tape.

Was this the lot that was on UK ebay the other day? I was watching it. The Yamaha sound card was what peaked my interest and some of the boards. Glad i didn't bid in the end. People just see it as old junk, so no care is taken 😠. When i bought my shuttle board the other week, it was packed in a kiddies electric guitar box, with some a4 paper as padding and tape. I could hear the board, ram modules and gfx card just rattling around inside. I was like, that doesn't sound good. Thankfully the board was ok and cleaned up really nicely.

Its always a gamble buying old unwanted hardware.

Yeah.... Whenever I buy old hardware, I make shure that the seller knows that he or she need to pack well.
Most of the times I avoid lot's. Not to say that I never have bought any lot. Done it 2 or 3 times.

So I just won an auction for a bunch of random stuff. The pictures showed 4 motherboards.

1 Socket 478
1 that I think is either socket370 or socketA and that has some ram in it,
1 socket A that has a CPU in it
1 mystery board which has a heatsink on it so there is likely a CPU but no idea what it is.

In addition there were 9 loose CPUs of various types, some heatsinks of various types, and some DVDR/CDR disks.

Quite the random lot. I won the auction for 1 dollar with 15 bucks shipping. This was last week. The guy messaged me today and said it just went out and he apologized that it took a week to ship and because of that he threw some more random stuff in there so I have no idea what I am getting. I am really surprised he did that given I only paid a dollar before shipping, but who am I to argue. For 16 bucks hard to go wrong.

Understandable - I've always been lucky, but it's also the area where people tend to get lazy with packaging. Although the worst packaging is usually seen with laptop keyboards...
