Was it that LAPC-I bundle ebay auction which ended at 550$ recently?

The money being spent on this stuff should be embarrassing, frankly.

Better deals do still exist, if you keep an eye out for them... I'm currently enjoying an SCC-1 card that I picked-up last week for $30. 😀

Agreed. I've been finding a lot of stuff locally on Craigslist, rummage Sales, and other non ebay sites.

But did he really avoid ebay prices? Here is the LAPC-I auction that ended at $550 :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-LAPC-I-MIDI-Ca … =p2047675.l2557

Here is the bidding history, note the feedback scores :

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBi … em=190847548452

And here is the seller's feedback page, :

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie … eedbackAsSeller

Observe the username who gave feedback for the seller's LAPC-I auction. Compare the ebay item number and the feedback score between the winning bid and the buyer, and compare the user name between the proud owner of an LAPC-I and cards and the VOGONS' user name. You can also check his past auction buying history for other items recently purchased and exhibited a few posts back :

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie … lFeedback&rt=nc

That MPU-401AT he bought didn't go cheaply :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221223080906
Conclusion, the VOGONS user has in some cases, LAPC-I included, been paying top $ for his items.

Hehehe...good detective work, Great Hierophant! If your previous avatar is still being used, that would have been even greater to fit this occasion! 😀

I think it was brought up because :

When fellow members asked, no need to hide something or feel emabarassed about. It just gives a bad impression when he says something, while it is obvious otherwise. We all have paid quite a lot once in a while for what we like. The first LAPC-I I got was around 300+ USD - without the original box or manual. I sold off another of mine for around 500+ USD (got it for USD 250) - this one was boxed with manual.

You can see that Sound Blaster 2.0 is from ebay too.

No offense.

come on guys, when you buy so much you don't even remembered what you bought and where.
Also are we talking about a money a girl can earn in two hours?
Actually a boy too...
um..
OK, i can understand the reason for being shy about it.
But you know what, it is a great hobby and it doesn't really matter how you finance it!

Yeah who cares, I coughed up 165eur locally for a scc-1 some 6 months ago because I wanted it. Later someone here payed it again (with a little extra for shipping/fees) and got it from me on eBay. If you want something and have the money then sometimes you just buy it knowing it's expensive , but you get it NOW and you don't have to hope for a great deal that might appear in the future... I can certainly relate to this 🤣 , when I had money to spare I just wanted the thing, did not care too much about what I payed.

Lol at the detective. But well done 😜

I wouldnt be embarrassed. there are worse ways to spend money. He got some quality goods.

I often wonder what you guys do for a living to be able to throw that much money around on retro hardware.

In my opinion and I have no doubt most of you will disagree. ebay is a disgrace and so are most of those retro sellers.

Wouldn't say it is the sellers fault. They are usually not the ones who price the items that high. I would blame the buyers for bidding wars 😉

Isn't it enough to just live in the west?

yeah, buying new stuff that quickly lowers its price contrary to old stuff;)
I wonder if the old stuff will lower its prices when people who used them start dying. If it will have any value to people born after that era, like antics, paintings, coins, stamps, tanks etc. 😉

I would blame vogons, m$, oldgames, people throwing old stuff away causing rarity (including lack of storage space), manufacturers making stuff that easily breaks (including people buying cheapest stuff)...

As both a seller and a Vogoner, I wouldn't like people sticking their nose in what I spend money on.
As a seller I would, in any case, understand that people discuss selling prices and regard this as something normal. But not exposing
what people have paid, specially if we are talking about an active member of the forum and not an anonymous person.
Sorry to be that radical but I see no need in investigating how someone is spending his money.
Please, its like sneaking at school...why should you care how much the guy has paid? And if you do care and find out, keep it to yourself.
Why share it with everyone else? Maybe Artex does not want to share to the rest of the world what he spends money on.

Busted. Well, the price on that LAPC-I shot up at the last second and I got royally screwed. Embarrassing, yes. But, as others have come to my defense, I can choose what to spend my hard earned dollars on just like everyone else here that has a passion for this stuff. On the flipside, I've pulled a lot of items from Craigslist for much cheaper than some of the Roland stuff. The name Roland, by itself, is gonna fetch top dollar most of the time. Bottom line - this is a hobby and a passion for me, and I like sharing with other members my findings/purchases. It's not for bragging rights or e-peen status - it's for FUN! Isn't that why we all do this in the first place??

Rgart, I think you should apply at your local detectives office. I don't appreciate it, but I have to respect the amount of time and effort you put forth to dig me up.

^ no need to feel embarrassed , I have spent thousands or euros in amiga hardware in the last decade. I don't even count it anymore, it reached double digit. I had it and I spent it as I saw fitting, simple as that 😉
Now let's leave this all behind, it served it's purpose.
