Oh Yeah, They are brand new alright. Even the sealed bag has never been open.

They look immaculate. For my 386 computers.

Aztech card arrived today...in an envelope. But seem to have survived the shipment. Missing slot bracket seem to be identical to the 1350B, on the picture the one from my last "scrap"-lot 😀

IMG_6502.JPG

Also convinced the seller of a 10kg lot to ship me that card (sellers photo) 😀 Will report what I get...

Clipboard01.jpg

Somebody abel to identify that daughterboard? Seems to be unusual that the components are on the outer side?
EDIT: FOUND! Roland SCB-55! 😀 😀 😀

Wow that's a nice lot of finds you've had recently 😀
If you've got a 3d printer, check out this thread - I made a bracket for my SB pro, it should also fit your CT1350B clone: No Bracket for SB Pro 2 CT1600

Looks great, thanks! I will ask a friend, dont own a printer. Will report 😉

Damn, just got outbid on an Alaris Leopard. Fortunately some post came to soothe my sorrows:

First up, big stuff. A keyboard I just had to get once I saw it. It isn't just huge, it's ludicrously big. I would have compared it to my IBM Model F 122 'Battleship' (it's bigger 😮) but that's at work so here it is next to a tiny Model M instead.

IMG_20191106_205643.jpg

Can't test it yet as it needs its own power supply for all those LEDs and the character display.

IMG_20191106_183737.jpg

That was used in character generator consoles (for news scrolls and such), so finding the KVM and software required to drive it might be less than simple. It's an interesting area of hardware development, though. Will you be keeping your eyes open for a Chyron Duet keyboard?

Got a 1998 Celeron system yesterday. Seller said it wasn't working and put it up for 10€ + 8€ shipping.
I bought it mainly because I need an AT case, but it turned out the case is really badly yellowed and of very cheap build quality, so I'm not sure if I really want to use it for my SS7 build.

When I fired it up it indeed didn't have any video output, but after replacing the graphics card with a Rage 128 I had in storage and putting in a new BIOS battery, it turned out to be in perfect working order.
The components look like there haven't been any major upgrades since the system was built in December 1998, apart from the RAM which is 128 MB, maybe a bit too much for a low-end/midrange system of that year.
On the inside, all components are, besides being a bit dusty, in great shape.

Specs:

  • QDI P6I440LX/L6 (Legend VI) Slot I, Baby AT form factor mainboard, 440LX chipset
  • Intel Celeron 300A
  • 1x 128MB RAM
  • S3 Trio3D 4MB AGP Graphics Card (works only every now and then)
  • Sound Blaster 16 WavEffects (CT4170 / Vibra 16XV)
  • LG CRD-8322B 32x CD-ROM drive

Only thing that is missing is the HDD. I'm not sure what to do with it yet. I don't have any use for such a system and my plan of using the case and selling the rest is not that appealing given the condition and overall quality of the case. And I am somehow reluctant do rip a system apart that is basically in its original state from 21 years ago just to get this case.

What would you guys do?

As far as I can see, it will work as a regular PS/2 board once I wire up a 5V power supply to a DIN-5 connector. That will let me use it for its main purpose, which is replacing my F 122 at work (getting complaints about the clicks) with something quieter without downsizing.

Figuring out the rest is a longer term project I intend to do as part of my electrical engineering degree course if possible.

Today's thrift pickup, an HD3580 AGP card, at €7,50. Bit more than I'd like to pay for an AGP card at the thrift, but this is the fastest AGP card out there as far as I know, so I had to have it 😀

Ahh, the famous Micro-Labs - http://www.microlabs.com/
Probably still selling new old stock manufactured at the end of the 90s...

These cards have translation ROMs, don't they?
See if they support CGA/Hercules compatiblity modes at VGA frequencies...

Also...
The original ET4000(AX) datasheet only mentions up to 8-bpp modes - https://archive.org/download/bitsavers_tsengL … roller_1990.pdf
Later, there were ET4000AX boards with 16-bpp (or 15-bpp ?), often via optional hi-color RAMDAC
These Micro-Labs cards are obviously 24-bpp

So, there were three variants of ET4000AX ?
Any guide how to tell them apart?

Gex85 it could make a great 1998-1999 computer with some improved parts : 3D accelerator (3dfx ?), maybe improved sound, faster CPU (the fastest Mendocino celeron runs at 533MHz iirc. They only exist on socket 370 but a slotcket works pretty well. This would be a nice improvement over 300MHz, nearly twice as fast !

Since you have already a pentium 2 and a pentium 3 it can be used for lanparties for example. Or you might turn it into a windows nt4 computer if you've never played with that os. Or keep it as a mid range 1998 PC just to see what many people had in these days.

Today's haul... these three machines.
Ugly dirty as hell Big Tower which had very nice Morse 386 DX motherboard (I always wanted one of these). Case is damn dirty, PSU is working so I will probably find somebody who wants to buy it from me. Other than that everything works fine and is in good condition.

Very nice (looks like new almost) desktop, with 286 NEAT motherboard. Everything inside looks brand new as well. Fully working condition. Interesting blue Multi I/O card. Seagate ST157A HDD.

Also this minitower. I bought this PC mostly because of this case - I wanted to have one for a long time. It's in nice condition. Unfortunately BAM-12 (Suntac) 286 motherboard is beyond repair due to corrosion. ST157A HDD doesn't seem to work as well.

As you already mentioned I do have a period correct 1998 system with a Pentium II 350 (looking for a 450, but they are hard to find), 440BX chipset, TNT + Voodoo 2 graphics and the original Sound Blaster Live!, running Windows 98 (obviously), so there's really no need for me to keep the Celeron box. It won't do anything that the P2 box can't do much better. I even do have a 400 MHz S370 Celeron + Slotket in storage, so I could use that to perform a little upgrade, but I see no reason to do so. In this configuration, I would never use the system much and it would only take up my limited storage space... I think I will try to clean the front bezel and then use the case for my SS7 build (that I intend to actually use). If that doesn't turn out well, I will sell the system as-is and look for a different case.

Scored the oldest IBM Thinkpad I've ever owned pretty cheap at auction.

-Thinkpad 385D - year of manufacture: 1997
-Pentium 150

ibm1.jpg

What drew me to this was the dual Floppy/CD drive. In-hand, this thing almost feels like a laptop with the docking station built right in.

ibm2.jpg

Only real down side is the DSTN screen.

Cosmetically, the keyboard and palmrest are in pristine condition, I don't think this was barely ever used.

It does have a Boot-up error of 161/163, which from what I gather online is a CMOS battery and nothing else. Problem is I have to replace that battery before I can test this machine further as it won't boot past that error until the battery is replaced.

It was probably only used to stop 9mm ammunition.

I have the 380D that is almost similar to the 385D in terms of hardware, or maybe everything's the same. Really nice condition, except for a couple of small marks that are barely visible, DSTN display, and I need to reassemble it as I was cleaning it out of dust and other things. The battery will be under the memory door compartment and might be a CR1220 battery, which can be found at some spots, like Kroger, CVS, Walgreens, or whichever you have in your area. Good candidate to use it as a DOS gaming DOS machine as the sound card is compatible with DOS games (Cirrus Logic audio chip), except I use an external display as the DSTN display is crap when playing games. If I can find a TFT active display assembly for cheap, I will install it immediately before reassembling it as I already have it disassembled ATM. Why I disassembled it was to test the CD drive to see if it'll work in my Toshiba Satellite Pro 410CDT, but there was no leg room to insert the drive. Ah well.
