Still not deside, in which project I can use it.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the 386/40 is a socketed one! 😁

I love that 386! Totally original which is rare for that era, people often messed around putting CD-ROM's in them, etc.

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Actually, almost 210,000 views, not replies, but that's still amazing! 3167 replies is great. I love to see all the retro gear that is being kept out of recycling and garbage!

Thanks! *bows down* 😀

I've never thought this thread would be so alive either. First I thought the "Bought these games today" thread would get more replies, but it turns out we are more interested in hardware instead of games. 😳

Which is quite surprising, considering VOGONS stands for Very Old Games On New Systems. I thought most alive topics should be "I want to run this old game on Windows 7 but..." or "How to run this old game on Windows 8?" You know, such things. It seems we're more interested in Old Hardware For Old Games instead. 😁

I consider myself pragmatic; I actually hunt for vintage hardware out of pragmatism, but despite that, I have to admit that there is unexplainable appeal in vintage hardware; the Voodoo, the Yamaha XG MIDI card, the MT-32, the gameport Thrustmaster joysticks. Maybe I'm actually a vintage hardware lover instead of a pragmatic.

And guess we're not alone. In other areas of interest, there are people who love vintage stuff as well. Vintage amplifiers, vintage loudspeakers, vintage cars, etcetera. Maybe modern Fostex studio monitors are more accurate, but there are those who insist on buying JBL L300 instead.

Isn't vintage hardware great? 😀

PS: I remember the very reason I joined Vogons on the first place. I didn't come here to ask how to run old games on modern system, I didn't come here to ask how to run emulators on modern system; nope. I came here to ask questions about Voodoo5 5500 - a vintage hardware. Not only that, but from the very start, my concerns were mostly about vintage hardware instead of actually running old games on new hardware; Voodoo5 5500, Yamaha SW60XG MIDI card, Roland MT-32, modern mobo with ISA slots, etcetera, etcetera.

How about you? Why did you come here on the first place? Is it about old games, or old hardware?

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

Between dosbox, gog & steam, I'd venture to guess 95% of all retro gaming needs are met. The only remaining market are us weirdos that like to play the old games on original hardware. I ~HATE~ messing with software. I want to double-click it, and go; but I will spend countless hours tweaking hardware to its potential. For the record, I can't remember why I ever came here. *shrug*

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

This could be the start of a new thread? Why did you come to VOGONS? 🤣

My very first post on VOGONS:

This forum brought so many memories back that I am now also planning on building something. I am very much into DosBox, but would love to build something hands on. It will very likely be based around a 440BX chipset, simply because I don't want to play around with old AT PSUs and towers and like to mix it up with some modern and easily available bits.

Ive got one of those socket 3 VIA PCI chipsets and the memory performance is awful and I cant work out why.

When I run speedsys the default memory bandwidth is like 25mb/s after tweaking it gets to 45mb/s and that's it, its a total dud, I was hoping it would the ultimate chipset for running the cyrix 5x86-120 but I firmly believe the ALI chipset is king.

Sad to read about it. Which ram speed is normal for 5x86-120?

Ta-da! I'm a proud owner of a SpaceOrb360! It's also my first successful ebay purchase except for cheap chinese stuff which comes to our country more or less untouched. The package was cut in two places in customs, thank god they didn't damage the cables or find anything useful inside!

$25 shipped from USA.
