Received a package last weekend.
Unfortunately some cards were defective and i waited for the refund to be settled before posting.
I was finally allowed to keep the defective cards + refund.

  • A matching pair of XFX 8800 GTX
  • A matching pair of XFX 9800 GX2
  • An XFX 7900GS AGP
  • A Radeon HD3850 AGP 🚀

Unfortunately the two 8800 and the two 9800 were defective (no boot or artifacts or BSOD after driver loading).
So i got partially refund (from 120€ to 50€ + keeping everything)

I was very thrilled by the matching 8800 and 9800... too bad.
The HD3850 AGP is sweetening a bit the disappointment, but i already have one... I don't know what to think about the 7900GS AGP.

I may try to repair the four cards since i have nothing to loose 🤷

Edit. SInce the 9800GX2 is a dual pcb card with a cooler in between, i'm thinking about mixing the two half from the two different 9800GX2 cards... might work... Frankenstein style.

I had one new. Its a steaming bag of dog shit. Its ONLY saving grace is the AGP version, but you have the far superior 3850.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

You could put some logs under your sofa's feet.
As a side effect you would gain space for some more CRTs (depending of the width by depth measures of your sofa of course).

This technique could also be deployed to other furniture, such as beds, chairs, etc. Your imagination is your friend.

Oh now I understand! Yes, that's brilliant! In fact, that technique could be extended to elevating the whole floor. That would free up some significant storage space under my feet.
😁

Finally found the front USB version! Maybe the first in its time?

Still need to clean it and I don't know yet how much RAM and hard drive space it has.

What's known: Seasonic 200 Watt PSU, ATC-5040 board, 233 MHz MMX, Rage 4MB video card, SoundBoostar sound card, modem, WD Caviar drive...

Gotta love how they reused the DB9 version but rebadged the port to USB 🤣

Haha yeah, maybe I can do a front VGA mod. You can indeed recognize the D-sub connector shape.

I caught a butterfly.

I have it in my hands and still can't believe that I have it in my hands.
Italian keyboard layout, ORIGINAL PC-DOS\Windows 3.1 setup in Italian language.
Docks and other adapters, also original IBM ethernet card (inside the pc in the picture).

Only the external floppy is missing which I will try to find in the future.

I already replaced the cmos battery with an easy changeable one. Now it is perfectly functional with no errors at boot.
Also put on rest the original hard drive, I will make an image of it and upload on archive.org. I have already replaced it with a CF-IDE adapter.

The attachment IMG_20230714_113931.jpg is no longer available

Also have some unused solder pads for beeper passthrouhg. I don't know if I need I2S and what J12 supposed to be.

There's a 6x2 J12 on the BOM, but doesn't specify function - https://www.philscomputerlab.com/uploads/3/7/ … 9techmanual.pdf

It looks like you would need to populate R39 with something?

Didn't buy, but swapped an Apple keyboard for these
- Vanta M64 32MB
- Voodoo3 2000 or 3000 with TV-out
- Elsa Synergy II-32
All are AGP

oh, and that keyboard was free for me. So these were essentially free 😀
No idea if these work or not, these were found in a scrap-pile. Will take a few days before I get around to test these.

Today I got this from a friend:
-ASUS DRW-1608P3S 16x X Multi DVD-RW Drive
-a ATX MiniTower PC Case like in those pictures (but in reality in a very good condition, and without GPU and motherboard, only case) + a floppy drive and a optical drive (not the one pictured in the photo)

Any opinions?

That upper image shows why I/O shields for early ATX motherboards are so hard to find now. For a few years they settled on that standard, and the case manufacturers included that shield with the case, so everyone threw away the shield that came with the motherboard. Then the board gets pulled from the case for an upgrade, and now there's no I/O shield. I had a bit of good fortune some months ago - I went to the one remaining computer repair business close to me, and they have quite a bit of new old stock. They had a box of miscellaneous I/O shields, and I sorted through it and found five or six of those early style I/O shields. When I went to purchase them along with a few other items, the guy threw the shields in for free. I now have more than enough for the motherboards I have.

Something rather rare popped up today, a Cyrix MII 400GP 2.2v at a reasonable price, had to have it.

The attachment Cyrix MII400GP.jpg is no longer available

IIRC only the 433GP is faster but I have never actually seen one of them in the wild let alone seeing a 2.2v version of one.

Nice, remember having a similar, only Fireblade Edition with 256MB - but man, that turbine aka stock cooler was awful! Loud as hell, I had to take it down and replace it for some aftermarket solution from AC, IIRC.

You don't like the sound of a jet turbine coming from your PC ?

Did you ever hear dual 4870x2 setups ? now they were loud. (Best part about owning two of them beasts .. the sound of the PC taking off during post !!)
